BOULDER, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University sprinters and jumpers were in tremendous form as women's high jumper
Josie Coffey turned in a NCAA Division II list leading clearance of 1.81 meters (5 feet, 11 ¼ inch) to set one of three new Maverick outdoor track & field records on Saturday at the University of Colorado Invitational on Saturday.
Meanwhile,
Elijah Williams broke his own week-old Maverick record in the 100 meters before anchoring the Mavericks to a school-record time in the 4x400-meter relay at the end of the day. Long jumper
Justin Thompson and the women's 4x100-meter relay team also set a NCAA Division II Championship qualifying marks as the Mavericks combined for five event wins and 20 top-5 performances throughout a strong day of performances.
Coffey, the
reigning Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Week, smashed her own old CMU record of 1.75 meters (5-8.75) with her high jump effort that took over the NCAA Division II Championship performance list lead. Coffey had entered the weekend ranked seventh in the country after clearing 1.72 meters (5-7.75) last Saturday but went nine centimeters better to finish second in the 16-woman field on a tie-breaker. Kylee Harr of the host and Division I Buffalo squad cleared the same height win.
Meanwhile, Williams took second in the 100 meters with a time of 10.48 seconds, eclipsing his mark of 10.52 set at last week's Maverick Invite. Freshman
Sterling Brassfield also turned in a solid time of 10.80 seconds to place fifth while moving into fifth on the Mavericks' all-time charts.
Meanwhile,
Teo Casados won the 200 meters in 22.06 seconds to rank eighth in program history after posting a time of 10.91 in the 100 to move into CMU's all-time top 10 for that discipline as well. He was making his Maverick debut after transferring from South Dakota Mines between semesters.
Williams also teamed with
Jeremiah Reed,
Beau Thornton and
Kade Christensen to take second in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 41.11 seconds, second fasted in CMU history and only off last week's record-setting relay time of 40.86.

AJ Smallwood,
Jake Valdez and Williams then broke the 4x400-meter relay record with a time of 3:16.70, which was again second only to the Buffs on the day. Williams has now set or helped set school-records in four different event over the first two weeks of the outdoor season.
In the long jump, Thompson claimed victory with a NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 7.38 meters (24-2.5) to move into as high as a seventh place tie on the national performance list. Teammate
Zace Buckhold also finished third with a leap of 6.89 meters (22-7.25) to move into the No. 5 spot in CMU history, a list led by Thompson at 7.44 meters (24-5).
Buckhold also cleared 2.01 meters (6-7) in the high jump to move into the No. 4 spot in Maverick lore while Garret Searls cleared 4.40 meters (14-5.25) to place fourth in the pole vault while moving into a tie for fourth in CMU history.
In other action, Reed took fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 22.50 while
Casey McDaniel placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a clocking of 55.68 seconds.
The Maverick women won three events throughout the day as
Sierra Arceneaux took the 100 in 11.87 seconds, just off the NCAA provisional qualifying standard of 11.86. Freshman teammate
Serenity Burnett-Perry also posted a time of 12.39 to move in the CMU's top 10 before taking fourth in the 200 with a mark of 25.67.
Both were also on the Mavs' 4x100-meter relay team that finished second in an NCAA provisional qualifying time 46.30 seconds, the fourth quickest time in program history.
Kierra Arceneaux and
Haley Golden also ran the turns for the Mavs.
CMU also claimed a massive victory in the 4x400-meter relay as
Jordan Burnett,
Sierra Arceneaux,
McKenna Molder and
Sophie Lindauer won by 7.3 seconds in 3:51.25, the second fastest time in program history.
Molder was running in her first meet in nearly a year and had run to a RMAC-leading time of 55.97 to place fourth behind three Division I runners. Her mark was just a single one-hundredth of a second off the CMU record, jointly held by Cathryn Frame (Ambler) and
Jill Payne.
Mica Jenrette cleared 1.60 meters (5-3) to place seventh in the high jump while
Hope Matteson cleared 1.55 meters (5-1) to join a multi-way tie for ninth on the CMU all-time performers' list. Lindauer cleared the same height.
Redshirt freshman
Taeryn Trumper finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 5.53 meters (18-1.75) to move into the No. 7 spot of CMU history.
Kierra Arceneaux, who ranks fifth, took fifth at 5.47 meters (17-11.5).
Freshman
Heather Yackey also improved her fourth place standing on the Mavs' all-time discus throw mark with a heave of 41.52 meters (136-3). Male counterpart
Hayden Riley also placed fifth in the discipline with a mark of 15.82 meters (51-11).
The Maverick squads will be at home next weekend hosting the Maverick Invite #2 on Friday and Saturday. A few Maverick multi-event athletes will also head to Azusa, California to compete in the Bryan Clay Invite on Wednesday and Thursday.
