COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University's
Josie Coffey was named as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Women's Field Athlete of the Week on Wednesday after the Maverick track and field standout got her 2022 outdoor season off to a winning start at last weekend's Maverick Invite.
The high jumper and javelin thrower from Lakewood, Colorado cleared a NCAA provisional qualifying and RMAC-leading 1.72 meters (5 feet, 7 ¾ inches) to win the high jump on Saturday. She also had a personal-best javelin throw mark of 31.02 meters (101-9) during the first event of the meet on Friday afternoon.
Coffey, who successfully defended her RMAC indoor high jump title in February, ranks seventh on the NCAA Division II Championship performance list with her high jump clearance, just off her school-record effort of 1.75 meters (5-8.75) from last season.
Wednesday was an award winning day for Coffey, who had also been recognized on the RMAC All-Academic First Team for the 2021-22 indoor season earlier in the day.
She and the Mavericks will continue their season this weekend competing at Friday and Saturday's Colorado Invitational in Boulder.
