BEAUMONT, Calif.— Three Colorado Mesa University men's golfers recorded top ten individual finishes as the Mavericks took fourth as a team at the Coyote Classic, which wrapped up on Tuesday here at the Oak Valley Golf Club.
The Mavs finished with a team score of 296 (+8) in Tuesday's third and final round and posted a 54-hole total of 869 (+5).
Maverick freshman
Henry Starr took a career-best second in the 80-man field, carding a 2-under par round of 70 on Tuesday to finish at 207 (-9), his best tournament score of the season. He was playing as an individual and did not contribute toward the Mavs' team score.
Starr registered five birdies during the final round.
Meanwhile,
Timmy Cavarno and
Dylan Everett tied for tenth at 217 (+1) alongside four other golfers.
Cavarno posted a 1-over par round of 73 on Tuesday while Everett recorded a 78 (+6), which was not counted towards the Mavs' team total.
Cavarno made an eagle on the par-5, 523-yard 16
th hole in all three rounds and added a birdie on No. 17 during Tuesday's round.
Meanwhile,
Jacob Gonzalez matched Cavarno's Tuesday 73 and finished in a tie for 16
th at 218 (+2).
Leo Lavalle and
Luke Wagstaff both finished with scores of 75 (+3) on Tuesday. Lavalle tied for 29
th overall at 219 (+3) while Wagstaff moved up three spots to take 42
nd at 224 (+8).
CMU's
Baptiste Laborde also had an impressive round of 1-under par 71 on Tuesday to move up 11 spots to a 63
rd place finish in the individual standings. He was also playing as an individual.
Tournament hosts Cal State San Bernardino won the team title by 19 shots with a 3-round total of 843 (-21) while Cal Sate Monterey Bay was second at 862 (-2).
The Coyotes also had the individual winner in Kamron Hopson, who finished seven shots ahead of Starr at 200 (-16). He fired a 66 (-6) in Tuesday's round after recording scores of 69 and 65 on Monday.
The Mavericks will be back in action in Colorado next Monday and Tuesday playing in CSU Pueblo's Samuel Proal Invite at the Pueblo Country Club.
