GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— A NCAA Division II co-leading 24 Colorado Mesa University Mavericks were named as College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-Americans, the organization announced on Wednesday.
The Maverick women led all Division II women's teams with 16 total selections while the Maverick men had eight honorees.
To qualify for first team honors, student-athletes must have earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher during the 2004 semester and participated in their national championship. Second team honorees must have earned a 3.5 or higher GPA and met a "B" time standard for the national championship or qualified for their diving zone qualification meet.
Thirteen of CMU's 16 women's selections were first team honorees while the other three earned second team honors. CMU's women took a program-best second place in the team at the NCAA Division II National Championships in March winning seven events.
Mickey Wender was named as the CSCAA National Women's Coach of the Year.
The Maverick men, who matched a program-best by finishing fifth at the national championships, had seven first team honorees, including
Ben Sampson, who was named as the CSCAA Men's Swimmer of the Year for the second straight season.
The Mavs' 24 total selections were equal to Grand Valley State and Montevallo for the national lead.
CMU also led the country in 2023 with 33 selections, a program-record.
