COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University's
Jordan Burnett, a 2-event Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Champion, was named as the conference's Women's Indoor Track & Field Freshman of the Year while leading 18 Mavericks who combined to win 25 total All-RMAC honors.
The conference's major awards, selected by a vote of the head coaches, were announced on Wednesday afternoon along with the official listing of All-RMAC honors.
Burnett, who won both the 200 and 400-meter titles at last month's RMAC Championships, is just the third Maverick track and field athlete to earn the Freshman of the Year honor joining current teammate
Josie Coffey (2021) and hurdling star Mekayla Winchester (2016). The redshirt freshman out of Fairplay, Colorado is one of the
Mavericks' eight individual qualifiers for this weekend's NCAA Division II Championships and will contest both the 400 meters and 4x400-meter relay in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
She also earned two of the Maverick women's seven First Team All-RMAC honors, which go to the top three finishers in each individual event and to members of the winning relay teams at the RMAC Championships, which were contested on Feb. 24-25 in Alamosa, Colorado.
Mica Jenrette (pentathlon) and
Kira MacGill (5,000 meters) also won conference titles while
Sierra Arceneaux took second behind Burnett in the 200 meters.
Kiana Jackson also took second in the triple jump while
Jordan Brockman finished third in the pentathlon to garner her first of two career All-RMAC certificates.
Brockman was also one of seven Maverick women who earned Second Team accolades, given to the fourth through sixth place finishers in individual events and to the members of silver-medal winning relay teams. The Flagstaff, Arizona native took fourth in the 60-meter hurdles and was joined by teammate
Averie Griffith, who placed sixth in that event.
Arceneaux also grabbed a second team honor with a fourth place finish in the 60 meters while freshman
Avry Kennison claimed her first all-conference honor with a sixth place finish in that event.
Coffey placed fourth in the high jump while
Taeryn Trumper finished fifth in the long jump.
Katie Thomson also picked up her first all-conference certificate with a sixth place finish in the pentathlon.
The Maverick men also racked up 11 All-RMAC honors, including five first team plaudits. Eight different athletes were recognized.
Justin Thompson won two of those after taking second in the long jump and tying for second in the high jump at the RMAC Championships. He is now an 8-time overall and 6-time First Team All-RMAC performer in his illustrious career.
Zayden Davis and
Dayne Ortega also received First Team All-RMAC honors after winning the silver medal in the 60-meter hurdles and 400 meters, respectively. Mateo Casados also picked up a first team plaudit thanks to a third place finish in the 200 meters after earning a second team all-conference honor thanks to a fourth place finish in the 60 meters.
Ortega also earned second team honors in the 200 meters, placing sixth. Elsewhere,
Becker Ell and
Hayden Riley garnered second team all-conference honors with fourth place finishes in the pole vault and shot put, respectively.
Zace Buckhold was also recognized after taking sixth in the high jump.
