COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Nine Colorado Mesa University women's track and field athletes garnered ten total All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference awards, the conference recently announced in conjunction with the league's major awards, decided by a vote of the conference's head coaches following the completion of the season.
The all-conference honors were strictly based on the individual finishes at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships with first team honors going to the top three and podium finishers in each individual event plus members of the winning relay teams.
Second Team All-RMAC honors go to the fourth through sixth place finishers in each event and to the members of the runner-up relay teams.
CMU sprinter
Hannah Schissler was one of the Mavs' three first team honorees and the lone Maverick to earn two all-conference certificates. The sophomore took third to claim first team plaudits and added a second team honor in the 60 meters, thanks to a fifth place finish.
Kammi Merritt had the Mavs' highest finish, taking second in the 400 meters and was joined as a first team honoree by
Megan Hodges, who took third in the 3,000.
The Mavs also had second team honorees in five other events with
Brooke Miller taking fourth place in the 800 meters while
Augustine Hancock and
Kaitlyn Pearson did the same in the weight throw and pentathlon.
Meanwhile, freshman
Taiya Carl tied for fifth in the pole vault while Kenda Ritzmann took fifth in the triple jump.
Addy Kirkpatrick also earned a second team honor after taking sixth in the long jump.
The Maverick women combined to score in 12 different events at the RMAC Championships and finished in a tie for sixth place in the overall standings with 58 points.
Eight Maverick men also combined to win nine All-RMAC honors.
