Box Score FRESNO, Calif.— The Colorado Mesa University tennis teams combined for five on-court consolation singles wins and another by default as they continued play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) West Regional Championships on Friday.
Diogo Manzano and
William Leschig both advanced to Saturday's consolation semifinals in the men's singles draw to lead the way.
Leschig defeated MSU Denver's Maximo Lawlor by a 6-1, 6-4 margin in the consolation round of 16 and then defeated teammate
Henry Scheck, 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinal round. Scheck had reached that match after defeating Westmont's Zach Hartman in the second consolation round by a 6-3, 6-2 margin.
Meanwhile, Manzano won his round of 16 match by default before defeating Point Loma Nazarene's Leo Bormann in a tight 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5) consolation quarterfinal match.
On the women's side,
Devyn Rodriguez reached the consolation quarterfinals after defeating Gina Dudley of Dominican, 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) but saw her solid tournament runs ended by the Academy of Art's Amelija Supulniece, 6-2, 6-1. The Maverick freshman and
Julianna Campos, who lost a 6-1, 6-0 singles decision in the consolation round of 16 had also played in doubles earlier in the morning. They were defeated in the main draw quarterfinals by MSU Denver's Emily Hafner and Lilly Stienemeier.
Campos and Rodriguez are now 4-2 in doubles this fall.
