BOULDER CITY, Nev. – The Colorado Mesa men's golf team battled back and claimed the 2026 RMAC Championship after play was halted after nine fully completed holes on Tuesday (Apr. 21) afternoon at Boulder Creek Golf Club.
Conditions started out calm but winds kicked up the later the day went and eventually got to be roughly 25 mph winds with gusts nearly 40 mph. Play was halted when officials received reports of the balls rolling off the greens.
Per USGA rules, since everyone completed nine holes of today's round, that would be used to determine today's team and individual scores. All men's teams completed the Coyote Run nine-holes and those were the scores used to factor into the title.
Colorado Mesa played the front-nine to an even-par and came away with a final team total of 708 for their first RMAC Championship title in program history. The Mavericks scored a 144 in today's shortened round to claim the title.
They held off CSU Pueblo who charged forward from the No. 4 position to start the day and even had a lead at one-point while Mines led heading into today but fell behind after only carding three front nine birdies.
Mines and CSU Pueblo tied for second at 710.
Leo Lavalle finished the tournament in a tie for second place just one stroke back of the medal winner. Lavalle finished the tournament with a score of 173 with a nine-hole score of 1-under, 35 as he picked up birdies on No. 1 and No. 4 before a bogey on No. 5.
Lavalle was at even-par for the round when play was halted.
Luke Wagstaff also shot 1-under, 35 in his first nine holes and was bogey free at 3-under when play was halted. Wagstaff scored par on his first eight holes he played before carding a birdie, three on No. 9 of Coyote Run.
Dylan Everett and
Henry Starr finished as the team's No. 3 and No. 4 scorers after carding matching 1-over, 37s.
Colorado Christian's Bradley Mulder was the individual medalist winner shooting a 45-hole total of 172. Mulder shot 2-under 34 in his nine counted holes in the third round.
Colorado Mesa earned the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference automatic bid to the NCAA West South Central Super Regional with the win. The official NCAA Super Regional field announcement is expected on Friday.
The NCAA West South Central Super Regional will be held May 7-9 at The Reserve at Spanos Park in Stockton, Calif.
