BOULDER, Colo.— Marik Cummings set a NCAA Division II Championship provisional qualifying time of 6.77 seconds in the 60 meters as the Colorado Mesa University tracksters set 19 times that appear on the Mavericks' all-time top-10 performers list during a solid day of efforts at the Colorado Classic indoor track & field meet on Saturday.
The Maverick men recorded a dozen of those marks as the middle distance and distance crew had one of the best days in program history here on the University of Colorado's flat Indoor Practice Facility track.
The Maverick women also combined for nine new top-10 marks during a nearly as impressive all-around running day that included the new marks in five different disciplines.
Cummings moved to third on the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's season-long performance list with his altitude-adjusted time of 6.79 seconds as he and
Amaris Mora both qualified for the 8-man final. Cummings took fifth while Mora took eighth after posting a time of 6.81 seconds in the preliminary round. Mora also led a group of seven Maverick men in the 200 with a solid time of 22.15 seconds.
In the 400, Maverick freshman
Blake Anderson ran to an impressive time of 49.53 seconds to take over the No. 6 spot in CMU lore.
The Mavs really shined in the 800 meters, mile and 3,000 meters as the Mavs posted three new top-10 times in each discipline.
Kyle Towne moved up three spots to fourth in the 800 with this effort of 1:53.86 while
Peter Learyand
Jayden Thulson both set career-best times while flip-flopping on the Mavs' all-time lists. Leary now ranks eighth at 1:55.58 while Thulson now ranks ninth at 1:55.70.
Meanwhile, freshman
Clayton Wilson turned in a mile time of 4:19.38 in his collegiate track & field debut and now ranks fourth.
Chase Brown also had a career-best mark of 4:21.59 to rank eighth while
Colton White, another freshman, now ranks ninth after clocking a time of 4:22.36 in his first collegiate track & field meet.
White also recorded a No. 3 ranking time of 8:38.36 in the 3,000 meters while Wilson finished just behind in 8:40.78 to rank fourth in Maverick lore. Brown also had a career-best time of 8:53.00 to stand ninth on the CMU top-10 list.
Freshman
Solomon Griffen also moved in to the No. 8 spot of CMU history in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.31 seconds, which was just off a spot in the finals.
On the women's side, freshman
Genesis Nehmer advanced to the finals in the 60 meters with a preliminary round time of 7.86 seconds and finished eighth with a finals mark of 7.93.
Elaina Arcand also had a career-day, leading the Mavs in both the 200 and 400. She had a personal-best time of 25.69 seconds in the 200 and set an indoor career-best of 58.82 in the 400 while taking over the No. 10 spot of CMU history. Sophomore
Waycee Harvey also broke the minute mark in the 400, registering a time of 59.31 seconds.
Meanwhile,
Jordan Staniszewski led the Mavs in the 800 with a time of 2:21.03 while also posting a mile time of 5:15.18 to move into the No. 6 spot in CMU history.
Autumn McQuitty led the Mavs in the mile, running to a mark of 5:11.11 less than a second off her low altitude career-best of 5:10.27 ran last year in Topeka, Kansas.
University of Idaho transfer
Maya Kobylanski also made her long-awaited Maverick debut, recording a mile time of 5:16.61 to rank ninth in CMU history.
Cross Country All-American
Megan Hodges turned in the Mavs' best placement of the day, finishing fifth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:10.92, just 2.50 seconds off her low altitude career best. Teammate
Shirley Weaver also ran to a solid mark of 10:39.18 and now ranks tenth in CMU history.
A trio of Maverick women also fared well in the 5,000 meters as
Lauren Hodges finished in 18:20.42 to rank fifth in CMU history.
Daisy Lalonde is now sixth after posting a time of 18:24.74 while
Wehazit Kelati ranks seventh after running to a time of 18:25.65.
Jessie Schaffer was the Mavs' lone representative in the women's 60-meter hurdles and finished in 9.57 seconds.
The Mavericks will continue the indoor season next weekend, sending athletes to three different weekend meets in Colorado Springs, Albuquerque, New Mexico and Allendale Michigan.
