BOULDER, Colo.— Augustine Hancock and
Austin Schultz both registered seventh place finishes to lead a contingent of Colorado Mesa University Maverick throwers in Friday's portion of the Colorado Classic indoor track and field meet here in the University of Colorado's Indoor Practice Facility.
Hancock, the Mavs' school-record holder in the weight throw, recorded a toss of 16.32 meters in her fourth overall attempt after making the finals out of the 24-woman field.
Teammate
Elly Thiem finished 18
th at 12.28 meters.
Meanwhile, Schultz and
Kaiden Major both made the finals in the men's shot put. Schultz registered a mark of 15.17 meters, just off his season-best, in his final attempt while Major ended up ninth with a heave of 14.70 meters.
Van Chambers also competed and took 17
th out of 26 men with a mark of 13.55 meters.
Chambers then led the Maverick men in the weight throw, placing tenth with an effort of 17.37 meters. Major finished 15
th at 14.93 meters while Kannon Garretson was 25
th with a career-best of 13.12 meters.
Elsewhere,
Aaliyah Bos finished 11
th in the women's shot put at 11.79 meters while Hancock finished 13
th with a mark of 11.38 meters.
Only field events were contested in Friday's portion of the meet.
Around 50 Mavericks are expected to run in Saturday's portion of the meet, which will be contested only on the track.
Races will begin at 11 a.m.
