Casados wins 100 in NCAA provisional time as Mavs claim 35 top-10 finishes

PUEBLO, Colo.— Teo Casados won the 100 meters in an NCAA Division II Championship provisional qualifying time as one of 35 top-10 finishes that Colorado Mesa University Maverick track & field athletes turned in during a solid, but wind-filled day of action in the Dr. Dan Caprioglio Invitational on Saturday here at the CSU Pueblo ThunderBowl.

Casados won the 100 in a wind-aided time of 10.42 seconds, which puts him eighth on the current NCAA Division II performance list with the altitude-adjusted mark of 10.45.  He also led the Mavericks in the 200, placing fifth in in 21.74 seconds run with an illegal tailwind.

In the 110-meter hurdles, freshman Aidan Brownell placed third in 14.78 seconds with a strong wind at his back while Logan Hafey took seventh to move up three spots to seventh in program history with a wind-legal time of 15.36 seconds.  Trevor Kendall also finished ninth in 15.42 seconds while running in Brownell's heat.

In the field, Hayden Moreno placed third in the long jump with a mark of 6.81 meters (22 feet, 4 ¼ inches) while Garrett Searls finished fifth in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.40 meters (14-5.25), just a centimeter off his outdoor personal best of 4.41 meters.

The distance runners led the Maverick women as Autumn McQuitty, Kate Linstedt and Autumn McCorkel, all finished in the top five of the 5,000 meters near the end of the day.  McQuitty took second in 18:34.90 and moves into the ninth spot on the Mavs' all-time performers list.  Linstedt finished fourth in 19:14.44 while McCorkel took fifth in 19:43.72.

McQuitty was also the third of three Maverick women who moved into or up on the Mavs' all-time list in the 1,500 meters. Brooke Miller led that group, finishing fifth in 4:38.28 and moved up three spots to fourth on the all-time list.  Megan Hodges ran to a time of 4:43.30 and now ranks sixth in CMU history while McQuitty posted a time of 4:48.40, a nearly 10-second improvement over her former personal best.  She now ranks eighth in CMU history.

The Mavs had two top-10 finishers in the 100 meters as freshman Kammi Merritt made her collegiate debut in that discipline with a seventh place finish and time of 12.32 seconds.  Serenity Burnett-Perry also took ninth in 12.37.
