Burnett, Horton post record-setting times to lead CMU women to third place RMAC Indoor Finish

Burnett wins third career RMAC title while Horton claims two silvers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Jordan Burnett won the gold in the 400 meters while Gaby Horton took the silver medal in both the 60 and 200 as each set record times to lead the Colorado Mesa University Maverick women to a strong third place finish in the team standings at the 2025 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, which wrapped up on Saturday afternoon.

Burnett claimed her third career RMAC title with a fieldhouse record time of 56.22 seconds.

Meanwhile, Horton broke her own school-record in the 60, blazing to a time of 7.43 seconds, lowering her Maverick standard from 7.46, set on the opening weekend of the season in December.  Horton also took three hundredths of a second off her personal-best in the 200, running to a time of 24.22, further solidifying her selection to the Mar. 11-13 NCAA Division II Championships in that event.

Horton ranks 15th nationally with her altitude and track-size converted time of 23.99.  Eighteen athletes will be selected in each individual event.

The Mavs finished with 87 team points and took third in the final team standings for the third straight year.  That team score was also their third highest in 20 all-time RMAC Indoor Championship efforts.

The Mavs scored in 13 of the meet's 17 events.

The Colorado School of Mines claimed a third straight team title with 140 ½ points while meet host UCCS took second with 131 ½.

Although Burnett and Horton led the way, the Mavericks also received a solid fourth place finish from Brooke Miller, who posted an 800-meter time of 2:13.33, slightly improving her converted season-best to 2:10.62, good for the No. 31 spot on the national performance list as of Saturday night.

Elsewhere on the track, Sylvia Johansen took seventh in the 60 meters with a time of 7.72 seconds before freshmen Atahlia Mills and Kaitlyn Pearson finished sixth and eighth, respectively, in the 60-meter hurdles.  Mills finished in season-best 8.99 seconds while Pearson stopped the clock at 9.04 after going under eight seconds in the preliminary round on Friday.

Serenity Burnett-Perry also snagged a team point in the 200 meters, taking eighth in 25.54 seconds.

The Mavs also shined in the field as Mills was the third of three team scorers in the high jump.  Kaelea Gibson led the group, clearing 1.59 meters (5 feet, 2 ½ inches) to place fifth.  Hope Matteson also went out at the same height and finished sixth with one more total miss than Gibson.

Mills cleared 1.54 meters (5-0.5) to place eighth.

Sophie Lindauer and Olivia Langner also posted respectable ninth and tenth place finishes as Lindauer matches Mills' clearance while Langner got over 1.49 meters (4-10.5).

In the shot put, Christina Palmer finished fifth with a mark of 12.95 meters (42-6) while Augustine Hancock took ninth with a heave of 12.19 meters (40-0).  Katie Thomson, the silver medalist in Friday's pentathlon, finished 17th with a throw of 11.34 meters (37-2.5).

In the triple jump, freshman Kendra Ritzmann, took seventh at 11.29 meters (37-0.5), just off her season-best of 11.32 meters (37-1.75) while Lily Nieslanik finished 12th with a mark of 10.83 meters (35-6.5).

The Mavs were also represented in the two distance running event finals contested on Saturday.

Megan Hodges finished 12th in the mile with a career-best time of 5:15.93 to move up a spot to sixth in program history, one spot ahead of Kirstin Williams, who finished 13th in the 3,000 with a time of 10:34.27.

The Maverick men finished sixth as a team as Salem Brunk won the triple jump while Antone Higgs took fourth in that event after taking second in the long jump on Friday.
