BOULDER, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University Mavericks sprinted and ran to ten top-5 finishes and 18 new marks on the program's top-10 all-time charts, including a new school-record and six total NCAA Division II Championship provisional qualifying times during a stellar day of performances as the Colorado Invitational, which wrapped up Saturday evening here at the University of Colorado's Indoor Practice Facility.
The meet was the most fruitful of three that Maverick athletes competed in around the state on Saturday as CMU
picked up a win and five second place finishes from a smaller contingent of field and multi-eventers in Golden and
a second and third place from another small group in Gunnison.
At CU, where 640 athletes from 15 schools and several other clubs competed,
Brooke Miller broke her own CMU indoor stand in the 800 meters while
Gaby Horton won the women's 60-meter dash, took third in the 200 meters with an indoor personal record and led-off the Mavs' second place 4x400-meter relay team that posted the fifth fastest time in program history. Horton took the 60- meter victory in 7.49 seconds, just off her nearly 2-month old school record of 7.46, as one of four Maverick sprinters in the 8-woman final.
Horton also ran to a solid time of 7.57 seconds in the preliminaries to qualify first for the final.
Sylvia Johansen,
Kammi Merritt and
Hannah Schissler also ran in the final, placing fifth, seventh and eighth after each set quicker qualifying times. Johansen won her preliminary heat in 7.76 seconds after Merritt won the preceding preliminary heat in 7.79. Schissler qualified on time in 7.83 seconds.
In the 200, Horton posted an indoor career-best time of 24.46 seconds to place third overall and second amongst college runners in a field of more than 50. Her time puts her fourth in program history.
Horton's times were also both under the NCAA Division II Championship provisional qualifying standards but just off her season-bests with the applicable altitude adjustments.
Jordan Burnett, who sits third in CMU history in the 200, was just behind Horton on Saturday, taking fourth in a time of 24.76 seconds.
Schissler also ran to a time of 25.22 seconds to finish seventh while taking over the No. 7 spot in program history.
Burnett is also the Mavs' school record holder in the 400 and took fourth in that event on Saturday with a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 56.14 seconds, which converts to 56.35 on the national performance list with the altitude adjustment penalty.
Horton and Burnett also teamed with Merrit and Miller for the runner-up relay time of 3:51.14, which also eclipsed the NCAA provisional qualifying standard of 3:51.74 despite the altitude conversion to 3:51.58.
The CMU women also fared well in the distance events as Miller took fifth in 2:13.04 to break her own school record of 2:14.53 from earlier this season while
Jordan Staniszewski moved into the No. 8 spot of CMU history with a time of 2:22.39. Miller's altitude-adjusted mark of 2:11.11 from Mountaineer Open in Gunnison ranks her 17
th on the national performance list as of Saturday night.
Kirstin Williams also shined in the 3,000 meters, shaving fractions of a second off her former personal best with a time of 10:21.53 on Saturday. She ranks third in CMU history.

Rimari Facey posted a time of 9.44 seconds to lead the Mavs in the 60-meter hurdles.
The Maverick men were nearly as impressive, recording a dozen new times on the Mavs' all-time top-10 charts.
In the 400 meters,
Kelsey Montague ran to a career-best mark of 49.23 seconds to improve his No. 2 position in Maverick lore while taking 11
th place.
In the 200,
Quentin Hartel finished second behind an unattached runner in a field of 56, blazing to a time of 21.89 seconds. He now ranks fourth in CMU history.
The Mavs also received a fourth place finish and strong time of 6.95 seconds from
Amaris Mora in the 60-meter final and a fifth place finish from
Trevor Kendall in the 60-meter hurdles. Kendall posted a time of 8.35 seconds, improving his No. 7 position in CMU history.
The Mavs also shined in the longer events as four different Mavericks set new career bests to rank inside the top 10 of program history in the 800 meters.
Dylan Campbell led the charge, taking seventh overall in 1:54.53. He now ranks fourth in Maverick lore, two spots ahead of
Kyle Towne, who set an indoor career-best of 1:55.17 to finish 12
