General
  • Eight in-season Maverick squads are currently included in their respective national rankings/polls, while another in football is receiving votes.
  • Current rankings as of Monday morning at 10:30 a.m. are No. 1 (Women's Swimming), No. 6 (Men's Swimming/Diving), No. 7 Women's Wrestling, No. 11 (Men's Golf), No. 11 (Men's Wrestling), No. 17 (Volleyball), No. 14 (4th in Division II) Triathlon, No. 22 (Women's Soccer)
  • Basketball season tickets are still on sale through www.cmumavericks.com/tickets.
Football
  • The Mavericks (6-2, 5-1 RMAC) posted a 49-0 shutout win at Fort Lewis on Durango to win their fifth straight contest, their longest winning streak since 2017.
  • The shutout was their first since Oct. 19, 2013, when the Mavs blanked Fort Lewis, 42-0.
  • The Mavs have allowed just 36 points in their 5-game winning streak, a 7.2 points per game average.
  • They recorded 303 rushing yards in Saturday's win, their third straight 300+ rushing yard effort.
  • The Mavs had two 100+ yard rushers in the game— Aiden Taylor (101) and Sean Kidd (100).
  • Trek Keyworth had three catches for 56 yards and two touchdowns, all of which were career-highs.
  • Hunter Hamilton had two sacks and a forced fumble to help lead the Maverick defense.  He leads the team and ranks second in the RMAC with six sacks this season.
  • The Mavs rank 2nd nationally in passing yards allowed, surrendering just 119.4.
  • They also lead the RMAC in scoring (14.4 points/game) and total defense (242.3 yards per game)
  • The Mavs are home this week to face Black Hills State (4-4, 3-3 RMAC) at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
  • The Mavs are 8-4 all-time against the Yellow Jackets but have lost in the past two season.
Volleyball
  • The Mavericks, ranked 17th in last week's national poll (new poll to come out Monday afternoon), claimed a pair of 3-set sweeps last week to extend their winning streak to nine.
  • The Mavs are now 17-3 overall and 9-1 in RMAC play and have clinched at RMAC Tournament spot.
  • Nicole Martin led the Mavericks with 14 kills in a Tuesday night road win at Chadron State.  She then added 13 more kills in Saturday's home win over Colorado Christian and hit .535 throughout the weekend.
  • Sydney Leffler recorded a match-high 17 kills in Saturday's win while Sabrina VanDeList recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 37 assists and 13 digs.
  • The Mavericks will be on the road in Denver this weekend playing Regis & MSU Denver in RMAC Power Pod match-ups on Friday (6 p.m.) and Saturday (4 p.m.) at MSU Denver's Auraria Event Center.  Neither match will count for the RMAC standings but will be key for the NCAA Tournament selection and seeding process.
  • MSU Denver is ranked No. 1 in the national poll and leads the RMAC with 19-1 overall and 10-0 RMAC records.  Regis is 11-9 (7-3 RMAC).  Those two teams will play each other on Thursday night to begin the pod.
Women's Soccer
  • The Mavericks (11-1-2 overall) extended their winning streak to nine games and remained perfect in RMAC play (9-0) with a pair of weekend home wins.
  • CMU was ranked 22nd nationally and third in the South Central region according to last week's United Soccer Coaches rankings.  New rankings come out Tuesday.
  • The Mavs claimed a 1-0 win over UCCS on Thursday, avenging last year's NCAA Division II South Central Regional title game.  The Mavs then hung on to a 3-2 over CSU Pueblo on Sunday afternoon.
  • Braelyn Baclayon scored the only goal in the 39th minute of Thursday's win over UCCS while Keely Wieczorek made three saves to record her seventh shutout of the season.
  • Baclayon also scored in Sunday's win while Sauvelyne Randel scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season for the official game-winner, putting CMU up 3-0 in the 54th minute.
  • Sarah Dunn also scored in Sunday's win.
  • The Mavericks are still in second place in the RMAC standings with 27 points but have a game in hand over national poll No. 1 Colorado School of Mines, which has 28 points with a 9-0-1 conference record.
  • The Mavs will play at Mines on Friday night at 6 p.m. in Golden, for a match that will likely determine the RMAC's Regular Season title.  CMU will then be at Regis on Sunday at 1 p.m. before wrapping up the regular season next Wednesday (Nov. 6) at home against Westminster (4 p.m.).
Women's Wrestling
  • After holding their intrasquad dual on Friday, the Mavericks will open up their 2024-25 campaign this season hosting the Fall Brawl tri-dual against Snow College and Fort Hays State on Friday evening and then the Maverick Open tournament on Saturday.
  • Friday's action will begin at 5 p.m. with Snow College taking on Fort Hays State.  CMU will then wrestle Snow 15 minutes after that dual.  CMU will then take on Fort Hays State, again 15 minutes after the conclusion of the previous dual.
  • Thirteen teams are expected compete in Saturday's tournament, which will begin at 9 a.m.
  • The Mavs will begin the season ranked seventh in the NWCA Preseason Rankings, which were released on Friday, and have four individually-ranked wrestlers in Jaylee Sekona (4th, 207 lbs.), Jennesis Martinez (5th; 103), Isabella Morales (7th; 110) and Erica Smith (7th; 145).
  • The Mavs return six previous All-Americans and were picked second in the RMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
Swimming & Diving
  • The Maverick men posted a commanding 106-point (203-97) win over NCAA Division I Wyoming in Saturday afternoon's dual against the Cowboys.  That victory was CMU's first ever men's dual meet win over Wyoming.
  • The Maverick men won 11 of the 16 events and set six NCAA Division II Championship "B' Cut times.  Four men's divers, including event winners Wyatt Hermanson & Ty Mitton, also set NCAA qualifying marks.
  • The CMU women also took on Wyoming, falling 185-115.  They won four events and set five NCAA "B" cut swimming times and had two divers set NCAA marks.
  • Olympian Harry Stacey made his collegiate debut and won all four of his events, including two relays.  Andrew Scoggin was also a 3-event winner for the CMU men.
  • Olivia Hansson set three NCAA "B" cut marks for the Maverick women, while Agata Naskret, Kiara Borchardt & Sophia Bains all picked up individual wins.
  • The Mavericks will be in action again this Saturday, splitting the squad for dual meets on the Front Range.  The Maverick men will be at Denver while the women will heat to Fort Collins to take on Colorado State.
Cross Country
  • The Mavericks fared well at the RMAC Championships on Saturday in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
  • The Maverick women claimed their second straight seventh place team finish as they put six runners in the top 40.
  • Kirstin Williams earned her second consecutive All-RMAC honor, garnering second team plaudits with a 20th place finish.
  • The Maverick men finished eighth, four spots higher than in 2023, and two spots higher than they were predicted in this year's RMAC Preseason Poll.
  • Drexel Cox led the Maverick men for the first time in his career with a 44th place finish.
  • CMU's women were ranked 28th in the USTFCCCA national rankings (new rankings due out this week).
  • Both teams will next race at the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championships on Nov. 9 in Denver.
Men's Soccer
  • The Mavericks (4-8-2, 1-5-1 RMAC) dropped a pair of home games against nationally-ranked opposition.
  • CMU lost 2-0 to No. 5 UCCS on Thursday night and then by a 2-1 score to No. 25 CSU Pueblo on Sunday afternoon.
  • Manuel Ponce Casas scored his first goal since Sept. 12 in the 20th minute of Sunday's game.
  • Marc Bonafe assisted on that goal, recording his sixth assist of the season.  He leads the team and is tied for the fifth in the conference.
  • The Mavs currently sit in ninth place in the RMAC standings and must win all three of their remaining games and get help to have a chance at qualifying for the RMAC Tournament.
  • They will be at Adams State on Friday at 3 p.m. before heading to Durango to play Fort Lewis on Sunday at 1 p.m.  The Mavs then wrap up the regular season at home next Wednesday night at 7 p.m. against Westminster.
Men's Golf
  • The Maverick men wrapped up their season with two tournaments in Hawai'i last week.  They placed eighth at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate on Monday & Tuesday before taking fourth place at the Shark Shootout on Friday & Saturday.
  • Both tournaments were made up 19-team fields.
  • Timmy Cavarno (T-4th) and Cole Beyer (T-9th) led the Mavs at the Shark Shootout after Beyer (T-17th) led the Mavs at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate.
  • Beyer finished the fall season with a 68.75 scoring average and recorded two wins, four top-5 and, five top-10 finishes out of six tournaments this fall.
  • The Mavs finished in the top 4 at five tournaments this fall.
Women's Golf
  • Like the men, the Maverick women completed their fall season with two tournaments on the Big Island of Hawai'i.
  • They placed 11th at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate on Monday & Tuesday before tying for 7th at the Sharks Shootout.
  • They recorded their best two rounds (305 & 306) of the season at the latter.
  • Peyton Panzeri led the Mavs in both, tying for 13th in the Sharks Shootout after tying for 36th at the Dennis Rose Intercollegiate.
Women's Basketball
  • The Mavericks recorded an 85-53 exhibition win over Division III Colorado College on Saturday evening.
  • Playing against her sister Kyle, a senior at Colorado College, Maverick sophomore Mason Rowland scored a game-high 24 points on 10-for-19 shooting to lead the Mavs.
  • Olivia Reed recorded 12 points, eight rebounds and five steals.
  • Point guard Kylie Kravig was a point shy of a double-double with nine points and ten assists and did not commit a turnover.
  • The Mavericks will open the season on Nov. 8 at the D2 Conference Challenge in Odessa, Texas.
Men's Wrestling
  • The Mavericks will send a younger group of wrestlers, including redshirts, to Sunday's Mines Rookie Open, hosted by the Colorado School of Mines in Golden.
  • The tournament will begin at 10 a.m.
  • CMU's main lineup will be off this week before beginning the dual season on Nov. 9 in San Francisco, California.
  • CMU was picked to win the RMAC title in the RMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • The Maverick men are tied for 11th in the NWCA Division II Preseason Rankings that just came out.  They have seven individually ranked wrestlers in Dayson Torgerson (8th, 125); Oran Huff (9th, 133), Ryan Wheeler (7th, 157), Gus Dalton (6th, 174), Jason Bynarowicz (9th, 184), Gabe Carranza (12th, 197) and Tyler Doyle (7th, 285).
