ROMEOVILLE, Ill.— Brooke Miller and
Kirstin Williams both finished within the top ten percent of the field as the Colorado Mesa University Maverick women's cross country team ran to an impressive tenth place finish out of 36 teams at the Lewis Crossover Invitational on Saturday.
The Mavericks, receiving votes in the last three U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's NCAA Division II poll, finished with a team score of 331 points as they finished two spots higher than No. 22 Walsh (369) and behind only the other nine nationally-ranked squads in the deep and large field of 334 finishers.
Miller finished the 6,000-meter course in 21 minutes, 54.6 seconds to place 28
th overall and 26
th amongst those counting for team scores. Williams was 31
st overall and scored 29 team points while posting a time of 21:57.2, just a half-second off her 27
th place time from a year ago.
The next four Maverick finishers then finished within 14 seconds of one another as
Quin Gregg and
Autumn McQuitty broke inside the top 100 with 93
rd and 98
th place finishes, respectively. Greg finished in 22:55.0 while McQuitty clocked a time of 22:58.0.
Kendall White (114
th, 23:05.9),
Lauren Hodges (115
th, 23:06.1) and
Megan Hodges (119
th, 23:09.1) were the next Maverick finishers while
Kate Linstedt took 188
th in 23:43.2 to round out the list of Maverick finishers.
The Colorado School of Mines' Jenna Ramsey-Rutledge won the individual crown in 20:43.2 as her fifth-ranked Orediggers took the team title with 69 points ahead of the sixth-ranked and host Lewis Flyers, who tallied 114. No. 2 Grand Valley State was third with 157 while No. 4 Augustana took fourth with 188 points.
CMU's men finished 33
rd with 863 points as
Triston Charles led the Mavericks with a 153
rd place time of 25:40.9 on the 8K course.
Drexel Cox was the Mavs' No. 2 man in 25:46.8, good for 168
th place while
Kevin DeGree, the team's leader in the first two races of the season, and South Dakota Mines transfer
Ryan O'Loughlin were just outside the top 200 in 205
th and 206
th place. They finished in 25:59.7 and 26:00.6, respectively.

Chase Brown (218
th, 26:09.6),
Owen Frank (233
rd, 26:20.3) and
Jacob Dalrymple (276
th, 26:48.2) also represented the Mavs.
National poll No. 3 Mines won the men's team scoring chase with 62 points while 11
th-ranked Western Washington was second with 122. Augustana's Ryan Hartman won the individual race in 23:43.2 while Colorado Christian's Matthew Storer took second in 23:51.7 to lead the No. 18 Cougars to a third place team finish.
The Mavericks will race again in two weeks on Oct. 26 at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
