ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.— Seventeen different Mavericks were credited with goals as the Colorado Mesa University men's lacrosse team bounced back from a pair of tight losses to nationally-ranked foes in a big way, posting a 25-9 win over winless (0-10) Flagler College on Friday morning here at the Saints' field.
Eight of the Maverick goal scorers had 2-goal efforts as the Mavericks scored eight goals apiece in the second, third and fourth quarters after a slow start to win going away.
Their 25 goals are a season-high and are tied for ninth most in a single game in the program's history.
Freshman
JJ Brummett, one of the eight Mavericks with two goals, also had three assists to finish with a game-high five points. His older brother Jake also scored and went 15-for-17 at the face-off mark to lead the Mavericks to a 26-10 advantage in face-off wins.

Dylan Checketts, who was 8-for-15 on draws, also had six ground balls each.
Meanwhile,
Drew Eickelman had seven as the Mavericks scooped up 51 ground balls, 21 more than the Saints. The Mavs also finished with a 57-36 advantage in total shots.
James Steinke also had a strong game with two goals, two assists, four points and five ground balls while extending his scoring streak to ten consecutive games, including all nine of this season.
In net,
Nolan Hoffman made a career-high 17 saves in his first action of the campaign.
The Mavericks, now 6-3 overall, trailed 2-0 late in the first quarter before
Ethan Points scored to put the Mavs on the board with ten seconds to go in the opening frame.
The Mavs then trailed 3-2 with six minutes to go in the second quarter but rallied for seven goals in the final 5:03 of the half to seize a 9-3 half-time lead.
Later, they scored four goals in 2:05 worth of action late in the third to build a 17-6 lead.
Flagler then cut the gap to 18-9 before the Mavericks went on a 7-0 scoring run over just more than six minutes to complete the scoring.

With Friday's win, the Mavericks finished their 4-game, 10-day stretch in Florida with a 2-2 record.
They will now return home to prepare for a Saturday, Apr. 2 contest with in-state Division III rival Colorado College.
