GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University men's golf team will head across international boarders for their third tournament of a jam-packed fall season, competing in the Shootout at PGA Riviera Maya in Akumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico.
 
The 54-hole event will feature competitive rounds on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday played at the Tulum Country Club at PGA Riviera Maya
 
The Mavs are one of ten teams in the field, which includes eight NCAA Division II South Central Regional squads, West Region representative Cal State East Bay and Team Mexico.
 
Sunday's round, which follows Saturday's practice rounds, will begin with tee times at 9:30 a.m. (8:30 a.m. MDT), although the Mavericks will not play until the second wave of tee times, starting at 10:15 a.m. (9:15 a.m. MDT).
 
Monday's round will begin 10 minutes later with pairings to be determined by the first day results.  Tuesday's round will begin with a modified shotgun start, starting at 7:45 a.m. (6:45 a.m. MDT).

Last Time Out
 
The Mavericks finished second in a 13-team field at the San Juan Intercollegiate presented by Timberline Bank, which they hosted on Monday and Tuesday at the Bridges Golf & Country Club in Montrose, Colorado.
 
The Mavs went under par in all three rounds finishing with a 54-hole total of 21-under par 831.
 
Sophomore Henry Starr shared the tournament's individual win and led a group of three Mavericks in the top 10 of the 75-man field.  Starr posted rounds of 65, 69 and 67 on the par-71 course and finished at 12-under par (201) to share the crown with Colorado Christian's Bradley Mulder, who led the Cougars to the team win with an impressive score of 817 (-35).
 
Maverick senior Dylan Everett finished the tournament with a 6-under par round of 65 in Tuesday's third and final round to move up to fourth place overall at 10-under (203). 
 
CMU newcomer Will Alexander also tied for ninth place with a 6-under total of 207 while playing for the Mavs' "B" Team, which finished 11^th and ahead of the other two "B" teams in the field from Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rivals Fort Lewis and the Colorado School of Mines.

Return Trip
 
The Mavericks appearance in the Mexican Riviera will mark their second in as many years.  They finished seventh in a 15-team field at last year's event with a 54-hole score of 919 (+55).
 
Last year's appearance had marked the first time in program history that the Mavs competed internationally.
 
Henry Starr co-led the Mavericks in the individual standings, tying for 11^th place with an individual score of 226 (+10).
 
Dylan Everett also had a top-20 finish, tying for 18^th with a 54-hole score of 229 (+13).

The Lineup
 
Maverick coach Scott Sullivan has set his lineup for the Mexican tournament, moving Will Alexander back into the No. 5 spot following his strong performance at the San Juan Intercollegiate.
 
Henry Starr, the Mavs' top performer in both of the first two tournaments, will once again play in the No. 1 spot while Dylan Everett will be in the No. 2 role.  Senior Baptiste Laborde and freshman Colby Hutton will play in the No. 3 and 4 spots, respectively.
 
The Opposition
 
The field for the Shootout at PGA Riviera Maya includes six teams from Texas and seven from the Lone Star Conference.  Western New Mexico is the designated host and will play with UT-Dallas and Texas A&M-Texarkana in Sunday's rounds.
 
The Mavs will play with Lubbock Christian and Team Mexico.
 
West Texas A&M, which has been included in the Mavs' opposition at each of the first three tournaments, will play with LSC rivals UT Tyler and UT Permian Basin in the last wave.  Cal State East Bay, members of the California Collegiate Athletic Association, will also play in foursomes.
 
Ranking Recap
 
The Mavericks sit 23^rd in the first regular season edition of the Bushnell/Golfweek Division II Coaches Poll, released by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Friday.  That is a one spot drop from their No. 22 preseason ranking.
 
West Texas A&M is the only other ranked team in the Shootout at PGA Riviera Maya Field.  The Buffs are now ranked 21^st with 83 points in the top-25 polling, just six more than the Mavs.  They were ranked 16^th in the preseason poll.
 
Notably, three other teams in the tournament field are also receiving votes in the poll.  Cal State East Bay has 15 points while UT Tyler has ten.  Western New Mexico received a single 25^th place vote.
 
Following the team win at the San Juan Intercollegiate, Colorado Chrisitan surged six spots to 12^th in the poll after sitting 18^th in the preseason.
 
 Another RMAC squad in CSU Pueblo also remained in the poll at the No. 25 spot.  The ThunderWolves had been ranked 19^th in the preseason.  The Colorado School of Mines is also receiving votes.
 
RMAC Poll
 
The Mavericks topped the RMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll, which was released on Aug. 25.  After winning the conference crown, the Mavs received five of six possible first place votes and tallied 34 points overall.
 
CSU Pueblo was picked second with 28 points and received a first place vote along with three second place predictions.  The Colorado School of Mines and Colorado Christian were tied for third in the poll with 26.
 
Westminster (15), Fort Lewis (11) and South Dakota Mines (7) rounded out the poll.
 
Preseason Honors
 
Maverick senior Dylan Everett was also named to the 8-man Preseason All-RMAC team, which was made of the top returning players from last year's all-conference voting process.
 
He earned First Team All-RMAC accolades last year after posting a 72.39 scoring average to rank second on the team.  He had four top ten finishes throughout the season and posted 15 par or better rounds, including nine in the 60's.
 
Top Ten Scores
 
The Mavericks' final tournament score of 831 at the San Juan Intercollegiate is tied for third best raw 54-hole raw score in program history, trailing only the program record of 821 at the 2024 Ryan Palmer Invitational and the 828 that the Mavs posted to win the 2025 version of the San Juan Intercollegiate.
 
The Mavs' ten under par team score of 274 was also the best of any team in the field and is equal to the seventh best in program history.
 
Going Low
 
Maverick sophomore Henry Starr posted the best two rounds of his collegiate career earlier this week en-route to his co-tournament win.  His opening round of 65 (-6) on Monday was three shots better than his freshman year best.  He then carded a 67 in Tuesday's final round.
 
His final tournament total of 201 is six shots better than his former 54-hole career best of 207, set at last spring's Coyote Classic.
 
The 201 is also equal to the second best 54-hole tournament score in program history.  Now assistant coach Cole Beyer set the program record of 197 at the Ryan Palmer Invite in 2024 and posted a 201 in the spring of 2025.
 
Senior's Best
 
Senior Dylan Everett's final round of 65 at the San Juan Intercollegiate was also the best of his career, a single shot improvement over his 2025-26 season-best of 66, which he posted in the first round of the 2025 event.
 
Up Next
 
After competing in three tournaments in a span of just 15 days, the Mavericks will have a brief respite before resuming their fall season at the Oct. 12-13 Ryan Palmer Foundation Invite, hosted by West Texas A&M University.  That tournament in Amarillo will be the first of back-to-back events in the Lone Star State.
