Henry Starr led the Colorado Mesa men's golf team completed competition at the DII Shootout at PGA Riviera Maya on Tuesday (Sept. 30) afternoon at Tulum Country Club.
Starr finished in a tie for 11
th place on the individual leaderboard after firing a 1-under, 71 in his final round of the tournament. Starr had a stretch from hole No. 3 to hole No. 8 where he had three birdies and three bogeys before closing his round with a par on hole No. 9.
The Windsor, Colo. native opened the round with a birdie on hole No. 10 but followed it up with a bogey. He birdied the par-5, No. 16 to finish his first nine holes at 1-under.
Sophomore
Leo Lavalle finished the tournament in a tie for 11
th along with his teammate. Lavalle shot a final round of 3-over, 75 with two birdies, three bogeys, and a double.
Dylan Everett (5-over, 77) and
Luke Wagstaff (9-over, 81) round out the Maverick scorers in the final round.
Colorado Christian's Peyton Jones earned the individual medalist honor finishing the tournament with a 1-over, 217.
Colorado Mesa shot 16-over, 304 as a team in the final round and 919 during the entire tournament to finish in seventh place. Cal State San Bernadino withdrew from the tournament prior to the third round is listed as the seventh-place finisher in the results.
West Texas A&M won the team title with a 6-over final round and an 893 for the tournament.
The Mavericks will send their B squad to The Writz at Mile High on Sunday October 5 while the starters will play their final tournament of the season at the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invitational at Tascosa Country Club on Oct. 14.
