SHERIDAN, Wyo.— The Colorado Mesa University men's golf team finished fifth while sophomore Henry Starr took sixth to lead the Mavs in the individual standings of the Travis Roy Memorial Invitational, which wrapped up Tuesday afternoon here at The Powder Horn Golf Club.
 
The Mavs posted a final round team score of 298 (+10) on Tuesday and finished the 3-day, 54-hole event, their first of the season, with a final score of 878 (+14) as they slipped back two spots.
 
Freshman Colby Hutton and transfer Will Alexander both fired 74's to lead the team on Tuesday while the other four Mavs, including Starr, recorded rounds of 75 (+3). 
 
Hutton finished in a tie for seventh at 219 (+3) in his collegiate debut while Starr recorded his third top-ten finish of his young Maverick career.
 
Starr made ten birdies throughout the tournament and finished at 218 (+2).
 
Hutton had 11 birdies and one eagle throughout the event.
 
Meanwhile, Baptiste Laborde and Luke Wagstaff were amongst the Mavs to finish the final round with scores of 75.  They both tied for 12^th overall at 221 (+5).
 
Wagstaff led the tournament with 37 pars.

Alexander, a transfer from NCAA Division I San Diego, led the Mavs with 12 birdies throughout the event and moved up ten spots in to a tie for 35^th in the final individual standings with a 54-hole total of 229 (+13).
 
Dylan Everett also posted a 75 on Tuesday, his best round of the three and finished in a tie for 41^st in the 72-man field from 12 teams to round out the Mavs' effort.
 
Colorado Christian maintained the lead throughout Tuesday's round and won the tournament with an even par 54-hole total of 864.  The Colorado School of Mines and Westminster posted 1-over par team scores of 289 to share for the daily lead and took second and third in the final standings at 868 (+4) and 873 (+9), respectively.
 
West Texas A&M edged CMU for fourth place at 876 (+12) while the Mavs were 25 shots ahead of sixth place MSU Billings and the rest of the 12-team field.
 
West Texas A&M's Carlos Fernandez Mortera fired a daily-low round of 68 to claim the individual win by a single stroke at 209 (-7).  Colorado Christian's Jude Robbins led Mortera by five shots entering the day but could only manage a 74 (+2) on the final day to finish second at 210 (-6).
 
The Mavs will be back in action on Monday and Tuesday when they host the San Juan Intercollegiate presented by Timberline Bank at The Bridges Golf & Country Club in Montrose, Colorado.
