SHERIDAN, Wyo.— Led by a 2-under par round of 70 from sophomore Henry Starr and an even par collegiate debut from freshman Colby Hutton, the Colorado Mesa University men's golf team is in the lead after the first of three rounds of the Travis Roy Memorial Invitational, which got underway Sunday here at The Powder Horn Golf Club.  
 
The Mavericks posted a team score of 289 (+1) in their first round of the season and lead Colorado Christian by a single shot.  Westminster and the Colorado School of Mines are just two shots behind the Mavs and are tied for third.
 
Starr, who made six birdies, is in third place out of 72 players from 12 teams in the individual standings, just a shot behind Mines' Davis Kushner and Colorado Christian's Jude Robbins, who both recorded rounds of 69 to share the first day lead.
 
Hutton is part of a tie for seventh place with 12 players from the last three groups featuring Fort Lewisand Texas A&M-International to finish their opening rounds after play was suspended due to darkness.  The Las Vegas, Nevada native made three birdies and three bogeys on a steady first day of his CMU career.
 
Meanwhile, CMU's Baptiste Laborde posted a round of 73 while sinking four birdies and is in a tie for 13^th place while Luke Wagstaff is just one shot further back and in a tie for 14^th after recording a round of 74, which featured back-to-back birdies on the 11^th and 12^th holes.
 
Defending tournament champion Dylan Everett is tied for 21^st after recording a round of 75 while Will Alexander is in a tie for 31^st after carding a round of 76.  Neither of the scores were counted towards CMU's team score.
 
The tournament will continue on Monday with a shotgun start slated for 11 a.m.
