SHERIDAN, Wyo.— The Colorado Mesa University men's golf team is in third place and have four individual players inside or tied for positions in the top ten of the individual standings after the second round of the Travis Roy Memorial Invitational, which was played on Monday here at The Powder Horn Golf Club.
 
Thanks to an even par round of 72 from fifth-year Luke Wagstaff and three other rounds of 1-over par 73, the Mavs posted a team score of 291 (+3) on Monday.

After leading by a stroke following Sunday's round of 289 (+1), the Mavericks now trail Colorado Christian by 11 shots after the Cougars posted an impressive team score of 279 (-9) on Monday to seize the lead at 569 (-7). 
 
The Mavs are at 580 (+4) are just one shot behind the Colorado School of Mines, which played Monday's round in even par to sit at 579 (+3) heading into Tuesday's third and final round.  CMU is four shots ahead of fourth place Westminster (594, +10) and six up on West Texas A&M (586, +12), the latter of which bounced back to post a 2-under round of 286 on Monday after sitting sixth with a 300 (+12) in the opening round.
 
The other seven teams in the 12-team field are between 16 and 29 shots behind the Mavs.
 
Individually, sophomore Henry Starr continues to pace the Mavs.  He is tied for fourth as one of just five players in the 72-man field to sit under par after 36 holes.  Starr was one of the three Mavs to sign for a 73 on Monday and made three birdies throughout his round around the course, which played 7,146 yards in length.
 
Starr stands at 1-under par 143 through 36 holes and is seven shots out of the lead at -8 (136), held by Colorado Christian's Jude Robbins who needed just 67 strokes to complete his Monday round.
 
West Texas A&M's Carlos Fernandez Mortera also posted a 67 (-5) on Monday and is now in second place at 141 (-3).
 
Maverick freshman Colby Hutton also posted a 73 on Monday and is now tied for seventh at 145 (+1).  He made an eagle-3 on the 510-yard par-5 ninth hole along with four birdies but also made five bogeys and a double bogey.
 
Meanwhile, Wagstaff and Baptiste Laborde moved up in to a 4-way tie for tenth at 146 (+2).  Laborde posted his second straight round of 73 while Wagstaff had three birdies and three bogeys in his even par round that led the Mavs.
 
CMU's other two players— Will Alexander and Dylan Everett are in a tie for 45^th place at 155 (+11).  Their scores of 79 and 80, respectively, on Monday were not figured into the Mavs' team score.
