Randolph moves up on NCAA 200-meter list

CMU athletes set multiple season-bests at home meet

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— Joseph Randolph set an improved NCAA Division II Championship provisional qualifying time in the 200 meters, highlighting a long list of season and career-best efforts for the Colorado Mesa University Maverick track & field teams on Saturday during the Western Slope Conversion Classic here at the CMU Track & Field Complex.

The low-key, last chance type meet was the last of the season for many of the Maverick athletes.

Randolph recorded a time of 20.84 seconds with a legal tailwind and moved on to the bubble for national meet selection with his altitude-adjusted mark of 20.91 seconds, which ranks him 21st nationally as of Saturday evening.  The top 22 declared athletes following next week's meets will qualify for the national championships in Emporia, Kansas.

Randolph also moved up a spot to second in program history with his actual time.

Elsewhere, CMU record holder Justin Blanton won the 400 meters in a season-best time of 48.70 seconds while Blake Anderson took second in 49.18 seconds to take over the No. 9 spot in program history.

The Mavs also took the top three spots in the 800 meters with Dillon Elliott winning in 1:56.43 ahead of James Talbot (1:56.92) and Peter Leary (1:57.84).  Notably, Jackson Baker also won the slower second section in 1:58.80 to go up two minutes for the first time in his career.

Elliott and Talbot's times were also season-bests.

In the field, freshman Cooper Van Maurer, cleared 4.70 meters (15 feet, 6 ½ inches) in the pole vault to move up to fifth in program history.

Kaiden Major also had a career-best of 15.10 meters (49-6.5) in the shot put to move up two spots to fifth in program history after winning the discus throw with an effort of 45.06 meters (147-10).

On the women's side, Sierra Buzick posted a time of 12.70 seconds in the 100 to finish second before Hannah Schissler won the 200 in 24.14.

Running by herself, Elaina Arcand set a career best of 56.95 seconds in the 400.
