Last Times Out
The Mavericks split two matches last weekend in Colorado Springs, defeating the University of the Ozarks from Arkansas by a 7-0 score last Friday (Mar. 27) before dropping a 4-3 heart-breaker to Colorado College last Saturday (Mar. 28).
The Mavs snapped a 7-match losing streak
with the Friday win over the Eagles and did so in dominating fashion conceding an average of just one game per set in singles after winning two of the three doubles matches.
In the Saturday match against CC,
Diogo Manzano,
Emil Hultman and
William Leschig were singles winners after Leschig and
Henry Scheck claimed a doubles win.
Still Ranked
The Maverick men's doubles duo of
William Leschig and
Henry Scheck continues to
sit high in the ITA's NCAA Division II rankings. The Maverick pair now sits 16
th in this week's rankings after reaching a season-high No. 11 ranking in the previous set of rankings.
They have a 16-9 record together, including a 11-7 record at No. 1 doubles. They have faced a brutal schedule, taking on five other nationally-ranked team, going 2-2 with another unfinished match.
Chance to tie the record
Maverick senior
Emil Hultman won both of his No. 3 singles matches last weekend and has raised his season record to 19-8. His singles win total is tied for the fifth highest in CMU history and the most of any Maverick singles player in 11 years.
With one more singles win, Hultman can become the first Maverick to reach the 20-win mark since Andres Garcia-Rojas and Jordan Lyden both won 21 in 2014-15.
With two wins, Hultman would match those two men and Jordan Chomko for second on the Mavs' single-season wins chart.
With three wins, Hultman would match Lyden's 2013-14 record of 21 wins.
Hultman will also enter his final trip with 61 career singles wins, fourth most in program history.
Lyden has the record of 72 while Chomko won 65 times in his 2006-10 career. With two wins in Hawai'i, Hultman could match Nick Provenza for third in program history. With three wins, he would pass Provenza, who had 63 wins from 2006-10.
Island First
The Mavericks trip to Hawai'i will be their first such trip in program history.
It will also be the seventh state that the Mavs have played in this spring and the eighth this year.
