Mavs snap slide with big 7-0 win over Eagles

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University men's tennis team snapped a seven match slide in a big way, crushing the University of the Ozarks, 7-0 in neutral site action on Friday afternoon here at Lifetime Fitness.

The Mavericks, now 6-12 overall, swept all singles matches in straight sets while conceding just over an average of one game per set.  They also won the doubles point with 6-4 and 6-1 victories in the top two flights.

The NCAA Division III Eagles, who hail from Arkansas, fell to 7-6.

The Mavs' top four players all went 2-0 throughout the day.

Henry Scheck and William Leschig paired for a 6-4 victory at No. 1 doubles over Perry Guidry and Kento Iwahara, the reigning Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Doubles Team of the Week.

Scheck then claimed a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles over Haru Satomura.

Meanwhile, Leschig delivered the dual clinching point with a 6-0, 6-0 shellacking of Graham Blackman at No. 4 singles.

Earlier, Emil Hultman recorded his 18th singles win of the season by a 6-1, 6-1 margin over Nestor Carrero in the third flight after he and Diogo Manzano won 6-1 at No. 2 doubles over Sergio Munoz and Zachary Hanson.

Manzano was also victorious at No. 2 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Seth Dunn.

CMU newcomers Gavin Hutter and Andrew Lock also provided singles wins.

Hutter beat Luke Boyden, 6-2, 6-0 in the fifth flight while Lock blanked Nathan Briggs, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.

The Eagles' lone win of the match came by an 7-6 (8-6) margin in the tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles.

The Mavericks will play another Division III opponent in Colorado College on Saturday at 1 p.m., hoping to go 3-0 against the Tigers this spring after sweeping a hard-fought Feb. 28 home doubleheader.

The Tigers and Eagles are playing a Friday night conference match against each other.
