LOMA, Colo.— Shantelle Tupaz and
Sylvie Aardema Gagnon took the top two places to lead the Colorado Mesa University women's triathlon team to a 33-22 team win over rival Black Hills State University in Saturday morning's Maverick Aquathlon here at Highline Lake State Park.
The spring event included a 400-yard open water swim followed by a one-mile run along the park's levee.
Tupaz won the race by 28 seconds with a time of 11 minutes 38 seconds. She was the first of the ten women out of the water in 4:12 and also had the fastest run time of 6:42. She scored ten points in the Mavs' victory.
Aardema Gagnon finished in 12:06 and was in second after the swim portion, just six seconds behind Tupaz.
BHSU's Payton Sheehan finished third in 12:17 to lead the Yellow Jackets ahead of teammate Syndey Campbell (12:23).
Macy Arch was the third Maverick and fifth overall finisher in 12:42 while
Kaia Merrill finished sixth in 13:38.
Emma Meyers rounded out the Mavrick lineup, taking eighth in the field of ten with a time of 13:56.
