GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— Colorado Mesa University sophomore
Emma Meyers led a sweep of top five places as the Maverick triathlon team claimed victory in the Virtual Super Sprint Triathlon against NCAA Division III Central College of Iowa and Trine University of Indiana.
The three schools all competed in their own locales and sent in results to compile the team scoring that saw the Mavs finish with 72 points. Central and Trine tied for second with 32.
The Mavericks held their portion of the event early Friday morning, contesting a 200-yard swim in the El Pomar Natatorium, a 4-mile virtual bicycle ride on the pool deck and a 1-kilometer run on campus.
Trine competed on Saturday while Central had competed on Mar. 7.
Meyers, a 2024 Paralympian for Team USA at the Paris Paralympic Games, recorded a time of 16 minutes, 34 seconds, dominating on the bike segment to a time 10:00 minutes, 32 seconds quicker than freshman teammate
Sylvie Aardema Gagnon, had an overall time of 16:38 to place second.
Mackenzie Mayer was the first Maverick out of the pool in 2:12 and finished third at 17:58.
Macy Arch had the fastest run time of the top five finishers (3:45) and finished in 18:05 while
Ellayna Potter took fifth in 18:24.
Central's Estella Allen was sixth overall in 18:25 while Trine's Lia Bartholomew led the Thunder to place seventh overall in 18:42.
CMU's
Alexandra Schipai placed tenth in 19:13 and had the fastest run time of 3:26 while Jaycee Stphens finished 13
th in 19:59.
Kaia Merrill also competed but did not finish the run segment.
