GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University triathlon team was recognized for its academic success for the sixth straight season while four team members earned Scholar All-America recognition from the Collegiate Triathlon Coaches Association this week.
Head Coach
Jen Mathe's Mavericks have been recognized every season since 2020 and again received the honor after posting an impressive 3.79 team GPA during the fall semester, well above the 3.20 team GPA requirement to receive the CTCA Scholar All-America Team honor.
The individual accolades are bestowed to triathletes who competed at the Women's Collegiate Triathlon National Championships in Tempe, Arizona in November and recorded a 3.5 or higher GPA during the semester. First team honors are given to those who placed amongst the top 21 in their division while those finishing outside that cutoff are granted honorable mention accolades.
Shantelle Tupaz and
Nadine Klive received the first team honors while
Sylvie Aardema Gagnon and
Josie Williams picked up the honorable mention plaudits.
Klive has now been honored three times in her career with the Mavericks, including an initial first team selection in 2022. She and Tupaz were both honorable mention selections last year.
Williams had also earned honorable mention honors as a freshman in 2022.
Aardema Gagnon is a freshman this year.
