GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado Mesa University softball team trek over the hill to Golden, Colorado this weekend as they take on Colorado School of Mines for a 4-game conference series.
This weekend will be the first of eight games on the road for the Mavericks with them heading to New Mexico Highlands the following weekend.
The Mavs and Orediggers will play to a new schedule this weekend as well with weather altering the series by one day. They will play on Sunday and Monday now with doubleheaders taking place each day. Sunday is set for a noon start with Monday beginning at 11 a.m.

LAST TIME OUT
The Mavs won their second straight series this past weekend, taking three of four games from MSU Denver in what were their first home games of the season.
The Mavs are now 6-2 in the RMAC and tied for second place with the Colorado School of Mines.
On Saturday, the Mavs swept their home-opening doubleheader, 6-2 and 8-6.
The Mavs then dropped Sunday's first game 1-0 on a solo home run, but rallied to record a 10-2 mercy-rule win to claim the series victory.
Sophia Tassinari tossed a 4-hit complete game win in the series opener before Molli Magaña hit a go-ahead 3-run home run in the second as Tassinari picked up the save.
Marissa Nehm also went 2-0 in the circle, giving up just two hits and two runs in the series finale while picking up a complete game.
The Mavs finished with 12 hits, including four doubles, in that final game as TK Landes went 3-for-3 with three runs scored from the nine hole while Magaña had three RBIs.
The Mavs hit .340 as a team while having an on base percentage of .415 throughout the weekend.
Landes led the team hitting .545 (6-11) while totaling seven runs.
Brynn Escobar hit .417 (5-12) while Magaña led the team with 7 RBIs.
LOOKING AT THE NUMBERS
Creeping back to the .500 mark with a 7-9 record, the Mavs are hitting an improved .262 this season while having 19 different players record at least one at bat.
They have totaled 109 hits as a squad while scoring 63 runs and having 33 extra base hits.
Four players are hitting .300 or better this spring with five players total already having over 10 hits.
Cailynn Parsons is the team's leading hitter, batting .321 this season while being joined by TK Landes (.313), Brynn Escobar (.306) and Allison Lindsay (.300) as the other top bats.
Tegan Medina and Kamdyn Hagerty have also flourished in limited at bats for the team with both them of them hitting over .400.
In addition, there have been 10 home runs hit so far with Molli Magaña and Khloe Kubitschek each having three to lead the team.
Lindsay leads the doubles department with her having five herself out of the 20 total as a team.
As a staff, the Mavs are a top three pitching team in the RMAC for the second straight week with them owning an ERA of 3.83 this year and allowing opponents to bat just .292 against them.
Only four teams total in the conference limit opponents to a batting average under .300.
Sophia Tassinari has served as the team's top arm this spring having totaled 57.2 innings with a 1.82 ERA. She currently has a record of 4-4 with four complete games.
In addition, Tassinari leads all RMAC pitchers in innings pitched.
Kamdyn Hagerty adds a 6.07 ERA through 15 innings pitched and six appearances while also having a save. Marisa Nehm has appeared nine times as well in the circle owning a 3-2 record through 27.1 innings pitched.
The three pitchers have combined for 15 of the team's 16 starts.
In whole the pitching staff has struck out 45 batters this season through 106 innings of play. They own a WHIP of 1.60.
THE COACHES
Returning to coach the girls this season is Mercedes Bohte who enters her sixth season at the helm of Maverick Softball after taking over as the Interim Head Coach in the 2021 season and then officially being hired as the Head Coach in June of 2021.
Coming into this season Bohte holds a 202-65 record while leading the team to five consecutive 30-plus wins season, including three of them having 40 or more wins. In addition, she is responsible for claiming three of the last five RMAC regular season champions with one RMAC Tournament Championship. She was named as the RMAC Coach of the Year in 2021 and 2024.
Since taking over the reins of the program in 2021, Bohte has totaled eight all-Americans, 21 all-region selections and 35 all-conference picks.
Additionally, she has amassed three RMAC Players of the Year, four RMAC Pitchers of the Year, one D2CCA Region Player of the Year, one D2CCA Region Pitcher of the Year and one NFCA DII Freshman of the Year Finalist.
Joining her once again this season to aid her coaching efforts are the pair of Willie Hinojosa and Eddie Mort as her assistants. Former softball standout and all-American Myah Arrieta joins the staff as well as another assistant coach after finishing her playing career in 2025.
IN THE POLLS
The Mavs were picked to finish second in this year's RMAC Preseason Poll with them being voted as a top three conference team after finishing second in the 2025 season.
They earned 109 points in this year's preseason voting with them claiming three first-place votes, five second-place votes and two third-place votes.
They were just eight points behind Colorado Christian who was picked to win the conference with them earning seven first-place and four-second place votes en route to a total of 117 points.
Both schools, and MSU Denver, all made the NCAA Regionals last season as the RMAC's only representatives.
In addition to being selected second in the conference, the Mavs also had two picks to the Preseason RMAC Team that was released with the poll. Jessalyn Gallegos and Makayla Westmoreland were the two Mavs to be selected with the duo being the only returning All-RMAC performers for the team.
ABOUT MINES
The Orediggers come into this weekend boasting a 10-8 record overall while being tied with the Mavs for second place in the conference at 6-2.
This past weekend they swept Fort Lewis College on the road with them winning three of the games by three runs or less. They split with UCCS for their first conference series the weekend prior to that.
In the series history the Mavs have had large success over the years, owning a 104-15 record while winning the last 10 games. CMU swept Mines in four games last season, outscoring them 27-8.
The Orediggers are in their second season under Head Coach Tobin Echo-Hawk after going 22-32 last season. They were voted to finish sixth in the RMAC this year.
Kellan Ton is the team's leading bat with her hitting .475 while totaling 28 hits and 12 stolen bags.
She is joined by Kendall Aragon (.408) and Katie Bauer (.395) as the team's other top offensive threats.
The Orediggers have stolen 37 bases on 44 attempts this season with five players having three bags or more.
In the circle, six different arms have made appearances for the team with Taylore Wayne serving as the ace, going 5-1 with a 2.59 ERA. She has pitched 46 innings while holding opponents to a batting average against of .260.
Kat Miller and Madyson Ortiz each have the next most innings pitched while combining for 12 appearances.
RMAC NETWORK NEWS
The RMAC Network has moved to a pay-per-view model for the 2025-26 season. This season, all RMAC athletic events broadcast by its 15 full-member institutions and associate members will only be available for purchase via a single-game pass or a monthly or annual subscription. Revenue generated by the network will be redistributed to the league's membership to enhance their programs.
RMAC fans can purchase monthly and annual subscriptions that will provide them with access to all regular-season, championship, and archived broadcasts on the RMAC Network. A monthly subscription costs $25, and an annual subscription costs $130. Single-game passes are available for $10, which grants access to a single game for 24 hours.
Additionally, a discounted annual subscription price will be available to students, faculty, and staff of each member institution throughout the year. Purchasing options and pricing for individual RMAC Championships will be announced closer to each event.
