COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference released its All-Academic First Team and Honor Roll this morning with Brynn Escobar being named to the first team and leading 10 overall picks to the Honor Roll.
Escobar, a sophomore infielder majoring in Exercise Science with a 4.0 GPA, was the Mavericks' lone member represented on the first team while being joined by nine others on the honor roll. Those nine include Jessalyn Gallegos, Kamdyn Hagerty, Khloe Kubitschek, Olivia Litzen, Tegan Medina, Marisa Nehm, Ava Stephens, Sophia Tassinari and Makayla Westmoreland.
The first team all-academic squad was selected by a vote of the conference's 12 softball sports information directors based on a combination of athletic and academic accomplishments. Nominees for the first team must have at least a 3.5 GPA although all 13 selections had a 3.74 or higher GPA with seven of them checking at 3.9 or higher, including four with perfect 4.0's. Additionally, nominees must have been at their institution for at least one full academic year prior to the season and used a season of eligibility.
Honor roll selections must have a 3.30 or higher GPA and meet the other requirements. Those not selected for the first team automatically qualify for the honor roll.
This is the 11th year in a row that the Mavericks have earned a first team selection with their 10 total picks to the honor roll being third most in the conference.
Escobar's selection to the first team this year comes after having a strong spring in which she hit .322 with 10 doubles and tying for the team lead in walks with 24.
In addition, she was a part of 19 double plays as the Mavs turned a new single season record this year with 36.
Escobar earns this honor while also being named as an All-RMAC Honorable Mention pick last week.
Colorado Christian's Hanna Espinoza was named as the RMAC Softball Academic Player of the Year while 10 of the conference's 12 schools were recognized on the team.
