Magaña named Freshman of the Year as six Mavericks earn All-RMAC picks

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference released its winners of individual awards and All-Conference teams for softball this Thursday morning, as the Mavericks took home six different selections with Molli Magaña leading the group by being awarded the Freshman of the Year.

Magaña was the team's lone representative to win a major award this season with there being two members on the All-RMAC teams and four to earn honorable mention.

In addition, this was also the second straight year the Mavs have won the conference's Freshman of the Year award with Jessalyn Gallegos previously being awarded last spring.

The Mavs have now had at least one major award winner in five of the last six seasons.

Earning spots on the Second Team this year were the duo of Magaña and Cailynn Parsons with both of them being first time All-RMAC selections.

The group of Makayla Westmoreland, Sophia Tassinari, Brynn Escobar and Khloe Kubitschek all turned in picks to the honorable mention squad.

Westmoreland is the only player to be a multiple time recipient of All-RMAC as well with her being a First Team selection in 2025.

All of the awards were voted on by the league's head coaches with them not allowed to vote for their own players.

Magaña, who bolsters the Mavs' picks this year, turned in a dominant freshman campaign to start her career here at Colorado Mesa with her hitting .340 for third best on the team and hitting a staggering 13 home runs to lead the squad.

She tied for second most home runs in the conference with that mark while also being top 10 in both slugging percentage and OPS. Additionally, she recorded three separate multi-home run games during 2026.

Magaña was also a two-time RMAC Player of the Week selection this year with her being the only Maverick to earn any weekly awards.

Parsons joined her on the Second Team as the Mavs' top bat this spring hitting a team-leading .423 while collecting 11 doubles and four home runs. In league-play alone, she hit .463 while hitting 10 of those doubles and going a perfect 6-for-6 in stolen bases.

Her overall batting average would rank in the top 10 of the conference with Parsons being the only Maverick to hit over .400 this season.

She was one of just two players to have an OPS above 1.000 on the team as well with her slugging percentage of .631 being second best to Magaña.

For the Honorable Mention squad, Westmoreland returns as an All-RMAC pick after owning the second-best average on the team this spring hitting .348 with 14 extra base hits and going a perfect 11-for-11 on stolen bases. Her OPS of .979 is third best on the team with this being her third consecutive season to hit over .300.

In addition, she is one just two players on the team to appear in all 52 games this year.

Tassinari earned a nod for the first time in her career to Honorable Mention as the Mavs' top pitcher this spring going 15-13 in the circle with a 3.62 ERA over 166.1 innings pitched.

She's made 42 appearances on the season while collecting two saves and totaling 14 complete game efforts. She has the Mavs' lone shutout performance as well.

Rounding out the final two Honorable Mention selections were the Mavs' main middle infield duo this season in Escobar and Kubitschek.

Escobar has the fourth best average on the team hitting .324 with 10 doubles while also leading the team in walks with 24.

Kubitschek adds a .302 average with 10 home runs and 10 doubles herself with her being the other Maverick to appear in all 52 games.

Kubitschek's 10 home runs were best for second on the team with it also being the eighth most in the conference.

Defensively the pair would also be in large part responsible for the Mavs' program record 36 double plays this season with Escobar turning 19 and Kubitschek leading the team with 29.

Serving as the other major award winners this season were Colorado Christian's Kat Hanson as the Player of the Year and Larry Hays as the Coach of the Year with CSU Pueblo's McKenna James being the Pitcher of the Year.
