LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The Colorado Mesa men's golf team maintained their second-place position at the Las Vegas Desert Classic at Boulder Creek Golf Course after Monday's (Mar. 2) second round.
The Mavericks are still in second place and gave themselves some distance from fourth-ranked Florida Southern as they fired an 8-under, 280 in the round. The 8-under was the second-best team score for the round. They are now at 6-under for the tournament and five strokes behind leader Lincoln Memorial who shot an astounding 14-under in the second round.
Dylan Everett led the Mavericks in today's round after firing a 3-under, 69 to move up to No. 16 on the individual leaderboard. The junior finished his day with three birdies, two bogeys, and an eagle to vault up the leaderboard. The eagle came on the par-5, 533-yard hole No. 5 and was one of seven eagles on that hole during the second round.
One of his two bogeys came on the No. 12 which played as one of the toughest holes on the round. Four of the Mavericks six golfers bogeyed the hole today.
Everett is now at even-par for the tournament.
Jacob Gonzalez and
Leo Lavalle each shot 2-under, 70 on the day. Gonzalez moved up two spots on the leaderboard to No. 5 after finishing his round with four birdies and two bogeys while Lavalle carded three birdies, three bogeys and an eagle in the round. Lavalle catapulted ten spots to the No. 11 position.
Timmy Cavarno was the Mavericks No. 4 golfer after firing a 1-under, 71 in today's round. Cavarno sits in seventh place on the individual leaderboard at 2-under.
Lincoln Memorial's Edward Mason took over the individual medalist lead after shooting a 7-under in Monday's round. Mason now sits at 10-under for the tournament and has a three-stroke lead on second place Max Barile.
The Mavericks will complete the tournament with Tuesday's final round slated to begin at 9:00am with a shotgun start.
