GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— The Colorado Mesa University women's tennis team will spend the next four days playing the same number of matches in Southern California.
The Mavs, 7-9 overall, will continue what has become an annual Spring Break tradition playing four former Pacific West Conference rivals starting Sunday.
The Mavs begin the stretch in Santa Barbara playing at Westmont before heading to Los Angeles County and La Mirada to play at Biola on Monday afternoon. They will then take on Menlo in Azusa on Tuesday morning before wrapping up the trip against 22
nd-ranked Azusa Pacific in the finale on Wednesday.
The Maverick men are playing the same opponents on the same days.

Last Times Out
The Mavericks were in Lubbock, Texas last weekend, playing three fellow NCAA Division II South Central Regional opponents.
The Mavs began the trip with a 5-2 loss to Cameron last Friday (Mar. 6).
They then dropped 6-1 decisions to St. Mary's and host Lubbock Christian on Saturday (Mar. 7).
Jane Steur won both of her No. 6 singles matches on Saturday.
All three of the Maverick doubles pairs also won a match during the trip.
Impressive 6's
Senior
Jane Steur and freshman
Sophie Hartman have been splitting starts at the No. 6 singles spot this year and are both putting up some impressive numbers.
Steur has been in the starting singles lineup as late and has posted a 5-4 record while winning two straight, three out of her last four and four out of her last six matches.
Hartman has a 7-1 dual record including her 6-1 mark at No. 6 and has won her last four official matches while regularly playing exhibition matches when Steur has been in the lineup.
The two are a combined 11-5 at No. 6 singles this year.
Double Doubles
The Maverick No. 2 and 3 doubles teams are both 14-8 overall this season. They also both have winning 9-7 dual meet records after ending the fall portion of the season regionally ranked.
Catalina Ballon and
Delia Maier have a 9-6 record in the No. 2 flight and ended the fall ranked fourth the ITA's West Regional Rankings. Meanwhile, the all-freshman duo of
Valentina Gonzalez and
Sophie Hartman are 9-7 at No. 3. They were ranked seventh in the regional rankings.
Club 50
Delia Maier will enter the trip to California with 48 career doubles victories and will need just two more to become the 18th Maverick to ever record 50 or more. She also has 45 singles wins and 93 total wins with an outside chance to reach the century mark on this trip.
Know Your Foes
Westmont (Sunday – 3:30 p.m. Pacific/4:30 p.m. Mountain)
The Warriors have put together a solid 7-6 spring season but suffered a 7-0 loss to 11
th-ranked Hawai'i Pacific on Saturday as they continue a 6-match homestand that will finish against the Mavs.
Ellie Triplett has the team's best record this spring, going 7-6 while splitting starts at No. 3 and 4. Justie Spitzer is also 6-6 and has played everywhere between No. 2 and 5.
Thea Donarski is the normal No. 1 starter and has gone 4-7.
Last year's squad went 4-17 while the 2024 Warriors finished 3-19 in their first year playing a Division II schedule.
Biola (Monday – 2 p.m. Pacific/3 p.m. Mountain)
The Eagles are flying as of late, winning their last four matches by either 7-0 or 6-1 margins. They are now 8-3 overall and have a 5-2 record at the Biola Tennis Center.
They had been ranked 50
th in the Mar. 4 ITA National Team Rankings but slipped out in the latest set.
The doubles duo of Dafne Andres and Ivet Sancheva is ranked 42
nd nationally but only have a 2-3 record together this spring.
Yeo Kyung Kim leads the team with a 9-1 record in the bottom half of the lineup and has won seven straight decisions.
Andres is 8-3 while playing in each of the top four spots of the lineup and has won four straight. She also had a good fall season, ending it ranked 11
th in the ITA's West Regional Rankings.
Sancheva, who is 4-2 in the top flight and 7-4 overall this spring, and Kailee Mazzeo have split starts in the top flight. Mazzeo is 3-3 this spring.
Isabelle Karam is also on fire as of late, winning five straight singles matches.
The Eagles have won the doubles point in each of their last six duals.
Menlo (Tuesday – 9:30 a.m. Pacific/10:30 a.m. Mountain @ Azusa Pacific)
The Oaks are currently 6-3 and will play at Cal State LA before facing the Mavs in Tuesday's neutral site contest at the Azusa Pacific's Munson & Bavougian Tennis Complex.
They have gone 2-1 against Hawaiian foes over the last ten days and dominated the Chaminade Silverswords home in Atherton, California on Friday. They allowed just five games throughout the dual that lasted less than two hours.
They had been ranked 44
th in the Mar. 4 set of ITA National Rankings but were not inside the top 50 in the latest set (Mar. 11)
Azusa Pacific (Wednesday – 2 p.m. Pacific/3 p.m. Mountain)
The Cougars are 12-2 overall and have won six straight, including four at home, where they are 7-1 this season.
They are ranked 22
nd as a team in the most recent ITA National Rankings after sitting 14
th in the week before.
They went 21-3 and reached the round of 16 at the NCAA Tournament last year.
The Cougars have three nationally-ranked singles players in No. 26 Stina Larsson, No. 51 Karola Suviste and No. 72 Vini Bautista.
Suviste is a perfect 13-0 this spring, going 11-0 at No. 3 while playing twice at No. 2 singles. Larsson is 11-3, including a 9-3 mark at No. 1. Bautista has had two spot starts at No. 1 and is 6-6 this spring.
Kimberly Tran has also been good in the bottom half of the lineup going 11-2.
Suviste and Larson are also ranked 15
th nationally in doubles and have posted a 5-4 record in the top flight together.
Series Histories
The Mavericks hold a 3-1 all-time record against Westmont, winning 6-1 decisions in Santa Barbara in the last two years. The previous meetings were way back in 2001 and 2011 in neutral settings.
The Mavs have been beaten by the Biola Eagles in each of the last five years after winning in La Mirada in 2018 and 2019.
The Mavs played Menlo for the first time on Mar. 19 of last season, winning that dual, which was played in Fresno, California, 4-0.
CMU is 0-9 all-time against Azusa Pacific, which has won by 7-0 scores in each of the past five years.

The Mavericks will have a brief respite before continuing their season in Colorado Springs. The Mavs will take on a pair of NCAA Division III opponents in the University of the Ozarks (Ark.) and Colorado College on Mar. 27 and 28, respectively.
