GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— Coming off a nearly flawless weekend in Arizona, the Colorado Mesa University women's tennis team will hope to enjoy the first of only two home weekends for entire season when the Mavs host NCAA Division I Utah Tech and NCAA Division III Colorado College at the Elliott Tennis Center.
The Mavericks, now 6-5 overall and winners of three straight by 4-0 decisions, will play Utah Tech at 1:30 p.m. on Friday before taking on Colorado College at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
The Trailblazers and Tigers will also play against each other at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning while the Maverick men take on CC in the first match of a Saturday doubleheader, their only home date of the season.
Special Weekend
The Mavericks are also holding a Tennis Alumni weekend in conjunction with this weekend's matches.
A full listing of events and the RSVP link can be found above.
In addition to the Mavericks' matches, CMU Head Coach
Dan MacDonald and Tara will host a gathering at their house on Friday night.
Complimentary breakfast burritos will be served by culinary chef Wayne Smith, an avid Maverick tennis fan, on Saturday morning.
On Saturday afternoon at 1:15 p.m., MacDonald and CMU Senior Athletic Development Director Bryan Rooks will acknowledge reunion participants.
The Mavericks will also hold their Senior Day recognition as part of that ceremony, where they will honor six men and four women's team members who will graduate from the program later this spring.
The reunion weekend will then wrap up on Saturday night with a gathering at Kannah Creek Brewery across the street from the Elliott Tennis Center at 6:30 p.m.
Last Times Out
The Mavericks claimed a trio of 4-0 win over the weekend in Arizona.
On Friday, they beat NCAA Division II South Central Region rival Western New Mexico in the afternoon in Glendale before heading to nearby Surprise to claim another evening win over NAIA Ottawa University of Arizona.
The Mavericks
then completed the weekend with a 4-0 win over Arizona Christian back in Glendale on Saturday.
Maverick freshman
Sophie Hartman went a perfect 3-0 in singles as the Mavericks won all nine completed singles matches throughout the weekend. They also held leads in seven of the other nine unfinished matches as each dual was played to clinch to shorten the court time.
The Mavs also went a combined 8-1 in doubles.
Homecoming
The weekend in Arizona was a homecoming for Maverick junior and No. 1 singles and doubles player
Devyn Rodriguez. A native of Chandler, Rodriguez and her family welcomed the Maverick men's and women's squads to their home for a Thursday night dinner.
The Mavs then shined throughout the weekend as Rodriguez did her part.
She and doubles partner
Jade Brilhante went a perfect 3-0 during the trip while Rodriguez was leading both of the unfinished No. 1 singles matches she played. Notably, she was up 6-2, 5-4 on Western New Mexico's Josefina Bailetti, who is ranked 15
th in the ITA's South Central Regional Rankings.
Rodriguez stands fourth in the ITA's West Region Rankings and is tabbed 35
th nationally. She leads the Mavs with her 11-5 singles record and is 12-5 in doubles with Brilhante, a mark that co-leads the CMU squad.
Speaking of Home
As mentioned in the lead, the Mavericks will play their first two and two of the only three home matches that they will have all season this weekend. CMU's only other home women's tennis date is Apr. 18 against CSU Pueblo.
Although the Mavericks do not get to play at home at the Elliott Tennis Center very often, they have enjoyed success in their limited home schedule in recent years, posting a 11-3 home court record over the past four seasons. This year's senior class is 9-2.
Senior Day
The Mavericks will recognize four team members following the Alumni Reunion recognition ceremony at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday.
Jade Brilhante,
Delia Maier,
Devyn Rodriguez and
Jane Steur will all be honored for the contributions they have made to the Maverick program along with six men's seniors. Maier and Steuer have both been with the Mavericks for the past four years since leaving their European homes while Brilhante is in her second year with the Mavs after transferring from Northern Arizona.
Rodriguez is a junior in athletic eligibility but plans to graduate early this spring.
The quartet has combined for 259 match wins in their Maverick careers and all four have winning records.
Maier leads the way with 90 career victories entering this weekend. Rodriguez also has 79 while has 46 in her 1 ½-year Maverick career to date. Steur has won 44 times and has a winning record in both singles (26-16) and doubles (18-15) throughout her career.
Off the court, all four have also fared well academically and were all named to the Academic All-Pac West team and received ITA Scholar-Athlete Awards last year.

Utah Tech
The Trailblazers will enter the weekend with a 3-7 team record and have remained close to home playing all but one of their previous nine duals at home in St. George, Utah, where they are 1-4 or in Las Vegas, where they are 1-3.
Their most recent match was on Saturday in Las Vegas, where they were beaten 7-0 by Colorado.
Cameron Hendrix leads the team with a 5-3 singles record and has been playing mostly in the No. 5 spot. Mariana Zurita Berdeclo is 3-6 in the top flight while Ana Gutierrez Sampere is 4-6 overall bouncing between the top three flights. She has played at No. 2 in the Trailblazers' last five matches going 1-4.
The Trailblazers have gone a combined 6-18 in doubles play this season and have won the doubles point just three times. Maya Inouye and Nutsa Tsintsadze are 3-5 overall, playing mostly at No. 2 while Gutierrez Sampere and Zurita Berdeclo have posted a 2-4 record together in the top flight.
The No. 3 doubles spot in head coach Eric Pelton's lineup has been a revolving door and has seen Hendrix play with four different partners alone.
Colorado College
The Tigers will open the spring portion of their season on Saturday but had a strong fall season, going 2-0, including a 4-3 win over the Mavericks.
They are currently ranked 35
th in the ITA's National Rankings at the NCAA Division III level.
Avery Hickman advanced to the final of the "A" draw at the ITA Division III West Region Championships in October while Aspen Young currently sits 20
th in the ITA's West Regional Singles Rankings after winning both of her No. 1 singles matches in the fall duals.
Ally Lowe and Lucia Moravek also went 2-0 at No. 2 and 4, respectively.
The Tigers also won five of their six doubles matches in the dual wins over CMU and CSU Pueblo. Young and Moravek were 2-0 at No. 1 while Hickman and Lowe paired together for two wins in the second flight.
Series History
The Mavericks hold a 17-13 all-time series lead against the Utah Tech Trailblazers, former conference and Division II regional rivals when the St. George, Utah institution was known as Dixie State and in NCAA Division II.
Despite the Trailblazers' move to Division I, the teams have continued the rivalry, which has been competitive, but recently played in Utah. The Trailblazers won the last two years by 7-0 scores after CMU won three straight matches in 2022 and 2023.
The teams have played at least once every spring since 2009.
This Friday's match will mark the first time since 2019 that the Trailblazers have visited the Elliott Tennis Center and will be their first trip to Grand Junction as a Division I outfit.
The Mavs are 8-5 at home against the Trailblazers.
The Mavericks also have a long-standing rivalry with the Colorado College Tigers despite their divisional difference. The Mavericks had dominated that rivalry winning 18 straight matches from 2012-25 although the Tigers have won the last two match-ups by 4-3 margins on Apr. 12 and Sept. 13 of 2025.
The teams split a pair of matches just week apart in April of last season with the home team triumphing 4-3. The September match-up from this season was played in Pueblo.
The Mavericks lead the overall rivalry 22-13 and are 8-5 at home against the Tigers, who last claimed a road win in 2008.
