Mavs rack up five top-3 finishes, three new top-10 marks at Mines Winter Classic

GOLDEN, Colo.— Kaelea Gibson co-won the high jump while Jessie Schaffer and Kendra Ritzmann turned in second place finishes to lead a partial Colorado Mesa University track and field squad in Saturday's portion of the Mines Winter Classic here at the Colorado School of Mines' Steinhauer Fieldhouse.

The Mavericks also picked up third place finishes from Van Chambers and Addison Hayes while Asa Keim, Aaliyah Bos and Brilee Jensen all turned in marks on the program's all-time top 10 performers charts.

Gibson cleared 1.60 meters (5 feet, 3 inches) and shared the top spot with Western Colorado's Nykole Meshew while Maverick freshman Misha Edwards and Hayes both cleared 1.50 meters (4-11).

Meanwhile, Schaffer took second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.84 seconds after coming out of the preliminary round in a much faster 9.43.

The Mavs had three top five finishes in the triple jump as Ritzmann put down a mark of 11.28 meters (37-0.25) to finish ahead of Hayes (11.04 meters/36-2.75) in her first meet as a Mav.  Natalie Smythe also fared well registering a jump of 10.79 meters (35-5).

Bos took seventh in the weight throw with a mark of 15.51 meters (50-10.75) to move up a spot to fifth in Maverick history.  Jensen had a mark of 14.97 meters (49-1.5) and now ranks seventh in CMU lore.

Chambers led the Maverick men with a third place weight throw of 17.06 meters (55-11.75).

Freshman Asa Keim also had a solid fourth place mark of 4,558 points in the heptathlon.  He now ranks sixth in CMU history after his collegiate multi-debut, that included efforts of 9.34 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, 4.50 meters (14-9) in the pole vault and 3:05.31 in the 1,000 meters.  He was the top vaulter out of the nine men in the heptathlon field.

Meanwhile, freshmen Weston Domich took fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 14.05 meters (46-1.25) while freshman Solomon Griffen advanced to the finals in the 60 meters, finishing fifth in 6.92 seconds.
