Women's Basketball

The Mavericks, now 16-1 overall and 6-0 in the RMAC, seized control of the conference standings and extended their winning streak to 13 games with road victories over New Mexico Highlands and Adams State.
On Thursday, Olivia Reed Thyne scored 35 points and grabbed 17 rebounds while hitting the game-winning free throw with 0.6 seconds remaining to give the Mavericks a hard fought 69-68 win over the New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls in Las Vegas, N.M.
She then became the program's all-time leading scorer in Saturday's 89-49 blowout win at Adams State, which had come into the game tied with the Mavs for first place in the RMAC standings.
Cayden King led the Mavericks coming off the bench to score a career-high 24 points while Mykaela Moore matched her career-high with 21.
Hallie Clark (11) and Mason Rowland (10) also finished in double figures while Tamryn Blom recorded a season-high nine rebounds after scoring a season-high 11 points in Thursday's win.
Reed Thyne, who now has 1,925 career points and counting, scored 13 points in that game, breaking Tonya Stites' 33-year record of 1,920. Reed Thyne did it in 109 career games, one fewer than Stites' 110.
Reed Thyne now also has 1,153 career rebounds and is on the verge of breaking the RMAC record. She will need just one to tie and two to break the current record of 1,154, set by New Mexico Highlands' Nicole Allman from 1994-98.
Reed Thyne is also just 77 points away from the RMAC scoring record of 2,002 and now ranks fourth in conference history.
She leads the RMAC and ranks amongst the nation's top 10 in scoring average (19.4), rebounding (10.5), double-doubles (10), field goal percentage (.598) this season.
The Mavericks moved in to the top 10 of the WBCA National Poll last week. A new poll will be released on Tuesday afternoon.
The Mavs will look to continue their winning streak this week, playing two mid-week games.
The Mavs will play at Western Colorado (6-6, 4-2 RMAC) on Tuesday in Gunnison at 5:30 p.m. before returning home to face Westminster (3-9, 0-6 RMAC) on Thursday at the same time to begin a 5-game homestand.

Men's Basketball

The Mavericks (8-6, 4-2 RMAC) split a RMAC road trip, defeating New Mexico Highlands on Thursday before falling in overtime to Adams State on Saturday.
Harvey White scored a season-high 23 points in Thursday's 94-84 win at New Mexico Highlands. He also matched his career-high with eight assists.
Ty Allred also had 21 points and nine rebounds while Cohenj Gonzales scored 19 points off the bench.
The Mavs shot 91.2 percent (31-34) from the free throw line in the victory.
The Mavs lead the RMAC and rank fifth nationally with their season-long free throw percentage of .800.
In Saturday's 102-98 overtime loss, Clayton Jewell recorded his first double-double of his Maverick career with 21 points and 11 rebounds.
Allred and Gonzales scored 17 points each while Wes Ball had nine points and nine rebounds.
The Mavericks trailed by nine points with seven minutes to go in regulation and tied the game at 93 on a Allred bucket with 19 seconds remaining.
The Mavs shot 52.1 percent (37-71) from the field in Saturday's game but were just 2-for-10 in overtime.
Allred continues to lead the RMAC in rebounding (9.1/game) and is fourth in scoring at 18.4 points per game.
The Mavs continue a busy stretch of four games in eight days, traveling to Gunnison to face Western Colorado (5-9, 3-3 RMAC) on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. before returning home for the start of a 5-game homestand on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. against Westminster (6-8, 1-5 RMAC).
Western's Aidan McDowell is tied for the national lead in scoring average (26.5).

Women's Wrestling

The Mavericks went 3-2 and took seventh place at the NWCA National Duals in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
CMU has now placed in all five trips to the national dual meet championships in their program history.
They went 2-1 in Friday's portion of the tournament, recording 37-8 and 35-12 wins over West Liberty and William Jewell surrounding a 37-6 loss to second-ranked McKendree.
On Saturday, the Mavs fell 25-20 to sixth-ranked Presbyterian before bouncing back for a convincing 33-13 win over Sacred Heart in the seventh place dual.
Lorianna Piestewa went a perfect 5-0 throughout the weekend, posting three technical fall wins as well as decisions over the top and fourth-ranked wrestlers in the country at 124 pounds.
Jayleen Sekona went 4-1 with four wins by pin as she matched the CMU career wins record. Sekona now has 94 victories, equaling former national champion Marissa Gallegos for the record.
Gretchen Donally, who also went 4-1, and Thalia Vogelsang, who went 3-0, also helped lead the Mavs.
A separate contingent of Maverick backups also competed at Saturday's Eagle Women's Open hosted by Chadron State in Chadron, Nebraska.
Kylee Golz won the 124-pound bracket as six of the 12 Mavericks in that tournament placed.
CMU will be on the road again this weekend, competing at the York Open in York, Nebraska on Saturday before taking on No. 9 Fort Hays State and Sioux Falls in a tri-dual in Hays, Kansas on Sunday starting at Noon CDT (11 a.m. Mountain).
The Mavericks are currently ranked seventh in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) NCAA Women's Coaches Poll.
They have five nationally-ranked wrestlers in Zuniga (3^rd, 103 lbs.), Sophia Cornish (10^th, 117), Lorianna Piestewa (7^th, 124), Gretchen Donally (10^th, 145) and Jayleen Sekona (5^th, 207).

Men's Wrestling

The Mavericks had a successful start to the 2026 portion of the season, going a perfect 3-0 at the Tracy Borah Duals in Gunnison on Saturday.
The Mavericks recorded 24 wins, including 12 pins and out-scored Cal Poly Humboldt, Vanguard and Minot State by a combined 88 points in 49-5, 35-11 and 41-11 dual wins.
The Mavs are now 4-1 in duals this season.
Six different Mavericks went a perfect 3-0 throughout the dual, including 285-pound redshirt senior Ruben Samuelson, who pinned all three of his opponents in the first period. He needed just a combined 4:05 to record those wins.
Adonias Cantu, Alex Castaneda, Owen Cline, William Alvarado and Christian Pebley all went 3-0 as well while Gabriel Carranza went 2-0 before getting a rest for the Minot State dual.
On Friday, a group of 12 Maverick backups wrested in the Western Colorado Open.
Wil Moneypenny lead the group by winning the 165-pound bracket.
Tommy Thomas (3^rd, 157), Logan Noble (3^rd, 184) and AJ Salguero (6^th, 149) also placed while two other CMU rostered wrestlers who were competing unattached won their weight classes as well.
The Mavs continue to sit 18^th in the National Wrestling Coaches Association's NCAA Division II Coaches Rankings (Dec. 18).
They have three ranked individuals in Castaneda, sixth at 149 pounds, Cline (7^th, 157) and Carranza (7^th, 197).
The Mavs, who are 1-0 in RMAC duals, will resume RMAC action this weekend, traveling to No. 16 Adams State (4-0, 0-0 RMAC) for a pivotal Saturday matinee at 2 p.m.

Swimming & Diving

Both CMU squads moved up two spots in the December edition of the CSCAA Top 25 Dual Meet polls. The Maverick women are now ranked third while the men are fourth.
CMU will resume the season this Saturday taking on Division I foes Denver and Wyoming in a triangular in Denver.
Diving is slated to begin at 11:30 a.m. before swimming at 2:30 p.m.
Ada Qunell (Women's 200 Free), Olivia Hansson (Women's 1000 Free), Guillaume Guth (Men's 100 Free) and Luka Samsonov (Men's 400 IM) all lead the NCAA Division II top times report this season.
The Maverick women's 800 free and 200 medley relay teams also lead the country.
The Maverick dives are also both ranked second in the December edition of the US Professional Diving Coaches Association Coaches Polls, a new poll this season.
Kenya Meyer is ranked seconds on the 3-meter and third on the 1-meter in the PDCA's Power Rankings while Ryan Campbell and Jax Juarros rank second and third on the men's 3-meter ahead of fifth-ranked David Roethlisberger. Juarros is ranked fifth on the 1-meter.

Football

The Mavericks had eight players, the maximum allowed, selected to the College Sports Communicators NCAA Division II Academic All-District® Team, which was released last week.
Defensive back Kash Bradley was selected for the third straight year and is on the national ballot alongside Trek Keyworth for potential Academic All-America® honors.

Academics

The Maverick athletic department posted a 3.54 overall GPA for the recent fall semester.
Every Maverick team finished above the 3.00 GPA mark while 14 of them surpassed the 3.50 milestone.
The men's tennis squad led all teams with a 3.82 team GPA.
