CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – For the fifth time in the program's history, the Colorado Mesa women's wrestling team will be coming home with a plaque after a seventh-place finish in this year's version of the NWCA National Dual Tournament at the UNI Dome.
#6 Presbyterian 25, #7 Colorado Mesa 20 (CONSOLATION SEMIFINAL)
Colorado Mesa and Presbyterian split the 10 contested bout but the three pins by the Blue Hose in the first three matches proved to be the difference in a 25-20 dual in the consolation semifinals.
After the first three bouts resulted in pins, the Mavericks responded with a pair of decision victories by
Lorianna Piestewa at 124 pounds and
Thalia Vogelsang at 131 pounds.
Presbyterian had wins at 138 and 160 pounds while the Mavericks finished with two tech falls and a pin. No. 7
Jayleen Sekona secured a pin at 207 in the final bout of the dual.

The Mavericks won eight of the 10 matches on their way to picking up the 33-13 win over Sacred Heart to claim the seventh-place plaque at the NWCA National Duals Tournament.
Gretchen Donally (145),
Celina Preston (160), and
Jayleen Sekona (207) all picked up pins in the back half of the Maverick lineup.
Lorianna Piestewa and
Thalia Vogelsang each bumped up a weight in the matchup with Division I Sacred Heart and both earned technical fall victories. Piestewa wrestled at 131 pounds while Vogelsang competed at 138 pounds.
Sekona earned a second-round pin in the 207-pound match and in turn tied the Colorado Mesa all-time wins record which now stands at 94 career wins (tied with Marissa Gallegos).

The Mavericks will be back in action next weekend when they travel east for a pair of competitions. A select group will compete in the York Open in York, Neb. on Saturday while a separate group will compete in a pair of duals in Hays, Kan. on Sunday. Colorado Mesa is slated to take on Fort Hays State and Sioux Falls.
