ALAMOSA, Colo. – The No. 10 Colorado Mesa women's basketball team ran their win streak to 13 games after blitzing the host Adams State Grizzlies 89-49 on a special Saturday (Jan. 10) afternoon in Plachy Hall.
The Mavericks held the Grizzlies to their second fewest points of the season and just 32.1 percent from the field one of the marquee conference matchups early in the season. They also held Adams State to just nine points in the first quarter and 10 points in the fourth quarter.
Colorado Mesa built a 44-24 lead at halftime despite
Olivia Reed Thyne and
Mason Rowland in foul trouble most of the first half.
Olivia Reed Thyne became Colorado Mesa's all-time leading scorer during the game today. With 9:27 to play in the third quarter, the Windsor, Colo. native made a layup which gave her 1,921 points in her career surpassing Maverick great Tonya Stites who held the record for nearly 30 years.
Reed Thyne finished the game with 13 points, five rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block in her 109
th game as a Maverick.
The Mavericks continued their onslaught shooting over 69 percent from the field in the third quarter and stretched their lead to 66-39 at the end of the period.
Colorado Mesa finished the game with five players in double figures with two players either tying or setting career highs. The Mavericks shot just a shade under 50 percent from the field and over 84 percent (22-for-26) from the free-throw line. They owned the glass with a 48-23 edge.
Reserve wing
Cayden King finished with a career-high 24 points on 8-for-11 shooting from the field including 4-for-7 from downtown. She added seven rebounds and two assists in 28 minutes of action on the floor.
Senior
Mykaela Moore matched her career-high set previously this season with 21 points on 8-for-9 shooting from the field. She chipped in six rebounds and an assist in 35 minutes.
Reed Thyne (13),
Hallie Clark (11) and
Mason Rowland (10) all finished in double figures.
Tamryn Blom finished with a game and season-high nine rebounds.
Adams State entered the game undefeated in conference play at 5-0 and are coming off back-to-back seasons reaching the NCAA Tournament.
The Mavericks will continue their four games in eight days stretch on Tuesday when they travel to Gunnison for a matchup with the Western Colorado Mountaineers. Tip is scheduled for 5:30pm and will be broadcast on the RMAC Network.
