RIVERSIDE, Calif.— A record-setting Colorado Mesa University men's golf season came to an end on Saturday as the Mavericks carded an even par round of 288 and finished 18
th at the NCAA Division II South Central/West Super Regional Championships on Saturday here at Victoria Club.
The Mavs finished the 54-hole, 3-day tournament with a final score of 2-under par 862 and wrapped up the season with a team scoring average of 286.03, smashing the former mark of 290.97 from two years ago by nearly five strokes per round.
Cole Beyer, the Mavs' lone senior in their regional lineup also set a new program standard for scoring average. He led the Mavericks in his final tournament at 3-under par 213 and averaged 69.45 strokes throughout the season, highlighted by four wins.
Beyer carded a 73 (+1) on Saturday and tied for 38
th in the field.
Baptiste Laborde led the Mavs in the final round, making four birdies in the final five holes to register a 1-under round of 71. He finished in a tie for 65
th overall at 217 (+1).
Luke Wagstaff finished Saturday's round with an ever par score of 72 and tied for 52
nd in the tournament at 215 (-1).
Dylan Everett also posted an even par round of 72 on Saturday.
Like Beyer,
Timmy Cavarno posted a 1-over par of 73 and tied for 84
th overall at 220 (+4). He finished the year with a 71.85 scoring average, which was also lower than the former Maverick record of 72.22, set 12 years ago by Brandon Bingaman, who recently qualified to play in his second career PGA Championship.
