RIVERSIDE, Calif.— Four different Colorado Mesa University Mavericks all carded 1-under par rounds of 71 as the Mavericks moved up one spot to 17
th place in the team standings after the second of three days at the NCAA Division II South Central/West Regional, which continued on Friday here at the Victoria Club.
Cole Beyer,
Luke Wagstaff,
Baptiste Laborde and
Dylan Everett all turned in the aforementioned scores as the Mavs' Friday team score of 284 brought them to 2-under for the tournament at 574.
The Mavs will need to make up 16 shots in Saturday's final round to finish in the top six of the 20-team standings which would earn them a trip to the NCAA Division II National Championships.
Midwestern State currently holds that spot at 558 (-18) as 11 teams are within ten shots of one another between fifth and 15
th place.
Beyer continues to lead the Maverick group on the individual leaderboard. He is now tied for 27
th at 144 (-4). He made four birdies in a fairly steady round, birdying the 16
th and 17
th to move up and keep his chances of a potential national championship individual spot alive.
The top two golfers not on the six qualifying teams will earn those spots.
Wagstaff also had a strong finish, making birdies on the 17
th and 18
th holes. He also had two early birdies and is now at 1-under (143) for the tournament, good for a 54
th place tie.
Laborde now stands in an 81
st place tie at 146 (+2), 13 spots higher than he stood after Thursday's round.
Everett also moved up four spots after his bounce-back round, ten shots better than Thursday.
CMU's
Timmy Cavarno carded a 74 (+3) on Thursday and is now tied for 87
th at 147 (+3).
Saturday's tee times will begin at 7:30 a.m. PDT (8:30 a.m. Mountain) although the Mavericks will not begin until 8:20 a.m. PDT (9:20 a.m. Mountain).
