GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The Colorado Mesa men's golf team completed the first two round of the RJGA Palm Valley Classic on Tuesday (Apr. 7) afternoon at Palm Valley Golf Club's par-72, 7,015 course.
After the first day of competition, the Mavericks are in contention for a top-5 finish after finishing the first two rounds with an 11-under, 565 which places them sixth after day one. They are just a stroke behind fifth place and RMAC foe Colorado School of Mines and four strokes behind third-place Chico State who is at 15-under.
Cal State East Bay leads the tournament with a 19-under, 557. East Bay shot a 15-under, 273 in today's second round to catapult seven spots into first place.
Senior
Cole Beyer is in a tie for medalist honor at 9-under, 135 through two rounds. Beyer had 10 birdies against just one bogey on the day that included a bogey free second round where he fired a 7-under, 65. He opened and closed his second round with a birdie as he started on the No. 6, 400-yard par-4 and closed on the 395-yard par 4 No. 5.
Beyer is tied with Midwestern State's Seth Bearden atop the leaderboard.
Teammate
Timmy Cavarno had an outstanding day on the course as well. He is in contention with his teammate for medalist honors after an 8-under, 136 on Monday. Cavarno had eight birdies and three bogeys in his first round and four birdies and a bogey in his second.
Dylan Everett was the Mavericks number three golfer at 1-under while
Luke Wagstaff and
Leo Lavalle each shot 9-over through two rounds.
The third and final round of the tournament is scheduled to tee of on Tuesday at 8:30am MDT.
