BOULDER CITY, Nev. – The #23 Colorado Mesa University Men's Golf Team finished their final and third round of the Las Vegas Desert Classic this afternoon with the team taking 18th in the field at Boulder Creek Golf Course.
The Mavericks finished their first tournament this spring in a pool of 20 schools while having two players shoot sub-par rounds today, as Timmy Cavarno led the squad with a top 30 finish.
In today's rounds both Cavarno and Luke Wagstaff shot below par as Cavarno finished the tournament at one under thanks to a 69 today with Wagstaff carding a 70 in round three to finish the tournament just five over.
Cavarno's day featured four birdies with one eagle as he shot under par on both the front and back nine. Wagstaff added five birdies himself, with three of them coming on the front nine to shoot a two-under front.
Cavarno finished the tournament in 30th place as the team's highest performer with Cole Beyer being next best in 52nd.
Beyer shot a 74 in round three for two over with Leo Lavalle shooting a 78 for six over.
The pair combined for seven birdies on the day with Beyer totaling four of them as each golfer carded sub 80 rounds.
Julien Harrington also competed in the tournament making his collegiate debut.
As a team the Mavs the totaled 839 strokes over the three rounds with today being their best day, shaving off 10 strokes for a team 291 after shooting 301 in both rounds one and two.
Winning the tournament was Colorado Christian who shot 28 under as a team, with fellow RMAC schools, CSU Pueblo taking ninth and Colorado School of Mines taking 12th.
The individual winner was Baptiste Touchard from St. Mary's (Texas) who finished the tournament 12 under.
Colorado Mesa gets next weekend of golf off before they return to the links on Friday, March 21 in Goodyear, Ariz. to take part in the Hot Dirt Desert Shootout, hosted by Colorado Christian. The single day event will take place at The Golf Club at Estrella Mountain.
