BUCKEYE, Ariz. – The Colorado Mesa University Men's Golf Team played their second round of the Stack Cougar-Burro Classic this afternoon with the Mavericks holding steady in the top five of the field at Verrado Golf Club.
Currently sitting in lone fifth place, the Mavs shot 19 over on the day for a total of 303 strokes. They are just one stroke behind Fort Lewis who is in fourth place at 18 over and two strokes behind Westminster and Western Washington who both finished 17 over as a team to be tied for second place.
Leading the team once again was Senior Cole Beyer who carded a two under day for a 70. Beyer shot a 34 on the front nine while going even on the back with a 36. He recorded four birdies in his round with one eagle coming on the par five seventh hole.
Beyer is sitting in second place in the individual standings following today with him just one stroke behind Colorado Christian's Adam Duncan who is five under.
Timmy Cavarno, Luke Wagstaff and Dylan Everett all carded rounds in the 70s to accompany Beyer today with Cavarno leading the bunch shooting a 76. Wagstaff and Everrett followed closely behind with a 78 and 79.
The trio totaled five birdies together with Cavarno and Wagstaff each having two of them. Wagstaff is tied for 22nd place to be the second highest individual on the team to this point.
Baptiste Laborde and Leo Lavalle also competed on the day with Laborde tying for the most birdies on the team at four.
Co-host of the tournament, Colorado Christian, still remains the top team with them being 11 under to hold a 28-stroke lead between them and second place.
Concluding the 56-hole event, the final round of action will happen tomorrow now when each school returns to the Golf Club at Estrella Mountain in Goodyear, Ariz. for the final 18 holes. Tee time is slated for an 8:30 A.M. MDT start for the Mavs.
