TOPEKA, Kan.— Brooke Miller broke her own 800-meter school record for the third time this season and ran on the 4x400-meter relay team that set an improved NCAA Division II Championship provisional qualifying time, highlighting another strong day of performances for the Colorado Mesa University indoor track & field team on Day 2 of the Ichabod Invitational here at Washburn University's Indoor Athletic Facility.
Miller finished second in the 48-woman field in the 800 with a time of 2:12.30, besting her former record of 2:13.04 from two weeks ago. Teammate
Jordan Staniszewski posted a time of 2:20.73 to move up a spot to seventh on the Mavs' all-time performance charts.
Those 800-meter times were two of 13 new or improved marks on the Mavs' all-time top-10 lists throughout the day.
The aforementioned relay team of
Gaby Horton, Miller,
Kammi Merritt and
Jordan Burnett set a time of 3:47.97, third best in program history.
Meanwhile, Horton took second in a field of 76 sprinters in the 60 meters, with a time of 7.54 seconds. She was even faster (7.50) in the preliminaries.
Burnett also had a solid time of 56.62 seconds to take sixth in the 400. Teammate
Lexie Williams also took 12
th in a career-best time of 59.10 seconds, moving into the No. 10 spot of program history.
In longer races,
Megan Hodges took seventh in the 3,000 meters, running to a time of 10:08.42 to take over the No. 2 spot in CMU history.
A trio of Maverick distance runners also set new top-10 ranking times in the mile.
Autumn McQuitty finished seventh in 5:10.27 to improve her No. 4 position in Maverick lore.
Kirstin Williams also moved up two spots to sixth in program history with a time of 5:16.53 while
Kendall White took the No. 8 spot with a time of 5:21.27.
In the weight throw, school-record holder
Augustine Hancock had another solid throw of 16.73 meters (54-10.75) to place sixth while
Christina Palmer finished 11
th with a 50 foot throw (15.24 meters).
Aaliyah Bos also set a personal-best of 14.73 meters (48-4) to move up three spots to sixth in CMU history.
Also of note, freshman
Kaitlyn Pearson set a career-best time of 9.10 second in the 60-meter hurdles, the best of the Mavs' season to date.
The Maverick men also combined for four new marks on the Mavs' all-time top-10 charts.
Kyle Towne took seventh in the 800 meters with an indoor PR time of 1:54.72, an improvement on his No. 6 spot.
Chase Brown also moved up two spots to seventh in CMU history with a time of 4:23.31.
Jackson Baker, who smashed the Mavs' 5K record on Friday, also moved into the tenth spot of CMU history with his mile time of 4:25.62.
In the field,
Salem Brunk set a career-best triple jump mark of 14.28 meters (46-10.25) to improve his No. 9 position in Maverick history.
