GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.— Six of the younger members of the Colorado Mesa University men's golf team will get an opportunity to tee it up on Sunday and Monday as the Maverick contingent will play in the Colorado School of Mines' Bob Writz Invitational at Bear Creek Golf Club in Lakewood.
The 36-hole tournament will feature single rounds on both days with tee times starting at 11 a.m. on Sunday and 9 a.m. on Monday.
No team scores will be kept.
The field will include other individual golfers from Colorado, Colorado Christian, Colorado State University Pueblo and the host Oredigger squad.
Live scoring is slated to be available through Golf Genius. This preview will be updated with that exact link when it is made available.
A look at the Lineup
The Maverick lineup for the tournament includes sophomore Ingo Badial, freshman
Jacob Gonzalez, freshman
Ky Korte, junior
Baptiste Laborde, sophomore Zach Moreau and redshirt freshman
Noah Richmond. Each will be making their second start of the season after Badial, Gonzalez, Korte, Laborde, Moreau and Richmond represented the Mavs' "B" team at the San Juan Intercollegiate in Montrose on Sept. 22 and 23. Moreau played as an individual in that tournament.
Gonzalez led this contingent of Mavericks at the San Juan Intercollegiate, finishing in a tie for ninth in the 62-man field with a 54-hole total of 208 (-5). He had rounds of 69 and 67 during the tournament. Laborde also finished in the top half of the field with a tie for 30
th place finish at 215 (+2). He posted a 3-under par round of 68 in the first round of the tournament.
Badial also broke par with a 2-under 69 in the final round and tied for 42
nd with at 222 (+9). Korte tied for 46
th at 227 (+14) while Moreau and Richmond both tied for 55th at 230 (+17).
Last Time Out
The main Maverick starting lineup was in Mexico earlier this weekend, playing in the Shootout at PGA Riviera Maya at the Tulum Country Club in Akumal, Mexico.
The Mavericks finished seventh as a team with a 54-hole team score of 919 (+55).
Freshman

Leo Lavalle co-led the Mavs as they were both a part of a 5-way tie for 11
th place at 226 (+10).
Dylan Everett also finished in the top 20 of the 75-player field at 229 (+13).
The course, which hosts an annual PGA Korn Ferry Tour event, played tough surrendering just four total rounds below part throughout the 3-day (Sunday-Tuesday) tournament.
Starr's final round 71 was one of those and helped him move up 21 spots during the final round on Tuesday.
The Mavs were in tenth place after Sunday's opening round and moved up to eighth
while shaving 12 shots off their total to move up to eighth on Monday.
Colorado Christian's Peyton Jones won the individual title at 217 (+1) while West Texas A&M won the team title by ten shots with a team score of 893 (+29).
In the Polls
The Mavericks were ranked 19
th in the first regular season edition of the
Bushnell/Golfweek Division II Coaches Polll, released last Friday (Sept. 19). They had been receiving votes in the preseason edition.
The Mavs picked up 129 points in the top 25 polling of 22 member coaches.
Three-time defending RMAC Champions Colorado Christian are also still in in the rankings in the co-No. 14 spot. The Cougars received one first place vote after sitting eighth in the preseason edition of the poll.
RMAC rival CSU Pueblo is also in the poll in the No. 24 spot while Mines is still receiving votes as is West Texas A&M.
The Mavs defeated CSU Pueblo, Colorado Christian, Mines as well as No. 17 St. Mary's during the first tournament of the season.
North Georgia moved in to the No. 1 spot of the Sept. 19 poll, flip-flopping spots with preseason No. 1 West Florida. Georgia Southwestern, Central Oklahoma and Lee round out the top five.
Eight different schools received at least one first place vote.

The Mavs will then wrap up the fall season sending their top golfers to the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invite in Amarillo, Texas on Oct. 14-15.
