Mavs finish day one in fourth place

Beyer and Lavalle in Top Ten

Bellingham, Wash. - The Colorado Mesa University Men's Golf Team all recorded rounds of 79 or better on day one of the 2024 Western Washington Universtiy Men's Invitational at Bellingham Golf and Country Club as they stand in fourth place as team out of 13 schools. 

The Mavs are currently led by Cole Beyer and Leo Lavalle as the pair both shot under par rounds today with Beyer finishing seven under and Lavalle at two under. Beyer currently sits in third place with Lavalle tied for ninth place. 

Beyer would shoot an opening round 66 before finishing his second round of the day at 71 to record back-to-back rounds of sub-par golf. He would finish with nine birdies today with his opening round 66 being bogey-free. 

Lavalle would record a 69 to start his day before ending with a 73. He totaled seven birdies with his first round also ending bogey-free. 

Three other Mavericks' players would finish in the top 50 to end day one with Timmy Cavarno, Baptiste Laborde and Luke Wagstaff all competing as well. 

Cavarno would shoot a first round 71 to start his day before ending with a 79 to close out round two. Laborde would total rounds of 74 and 76 on his day while Wagstaff had rounds of 76 and 77 in his day. 

As a team CMU has a total of 577 strokes. Colorado Christian leads the tournament after day one as they totaled 550 strokes. CCU's Xavier Bighaus and Sangha Park both lead their team with each of them finishing under par. Bighaus is currently in first place after ending nine under today with Park finishing eight under par to be in second place. 

CCU is the only other school representing the RMAC in this tournament. 

CMU is scheduled for a 9:30 a.m. MST tee-off time in tomorrow's final third round.
