DUPONT, Wash. – The Colorado Mesa men's golf team shot a pair of sub-par rounds on Thursday (Sept. 26) to take a four-stroke lead at the Bishop Invitational and hosted by Saint Martin's at The Home Course.
The Mavericks opened the day with a 4-under, 284 in their first round and followed it up with a 2-under, 286 for a two-round total of 570. They hold a four-stroke lead over both Cal State East Bay and Hawaii-Hilo.
Colorado Mesa was the only team to have two sub-par rounds while four teams were under par in the first round. The Mavericks along with CSU Pueblo and Northwest Nazarene were all under 288 in the second round.
Senior
Cole Beyer is in a tie for the individual medalist honors after firing a first round 67 and followed it up with a 1-under, 71 for a 138. Beyer led the tournament after the first round where he was bogey free and added five birdies and backed it up with a second round that saw two bogeys and three birdies.
Beyer is tied with Hawaii-Hilo's Dylan Bercan atop the leaderboard.

Leo Lavalle is just one stroke behind him at 5-under, 139. Lavalle had 10 birdies across his two rounds but played consistent enough to shoot a 69 in round one and a 70 in round two.
Luke Wagstaff scored for the Mavericks in each round and had the low score on the team in round two with a 4-under, 68.
Timmy Cavarno and
Baptiste Laborde each scored in one of the two rounds.
The Mavericks are scheduled to tee-off in tomorrow's final round at 9am mountain.
