Twelve Mavs named to CSC Academic All-District® At-Large Teams

Six CMU sports represented in selections

AUSTIN, Texas— Twelve Colorado Mesa University student-athletes from six different teams were named to the 2023-24 Academic All-District® Men's & Women's At-Large teams, selected by the College Sports Communicators and announced by the organization this week.

The Mavericks had six men and six women selected from the sports of beach volleyball, men's & women's golf, men's & women's lacrosse and men's wrestling, all of which do not have their own single sport programs.  The Mavs' selections included men's golfers Cole Beyer and Pablo Diaz, men's lacrosse players Dylan Checketts and Hunter Holcomb, men's wrestlers Gus Dalton and Oran Huff, women's golfer Cassidy Phelan, beach volleyball players Sierra Hunt, Sabrina VanDeList and Hahni Johnson as well as women's lacrosse players Justine Anderson and Kelsey Viger.

To be eligible for the Academic All-District teams®, a student-athlete must have a 3.50 or higher GPA and be at least a sophomore, both academically and athletically amongst other athletic qualifications.  Institutions are limited to six men's and six women's nominations.

Of the 12 Maverick selections, nine have also advanced on to the CSC Academic All-America ® ballot, which will be voted on by CSC members.  Those At-Large Academic All-America® First second and third team honors will be announced on July 16 and 17.

The At-Large teams will be made up of the top overall student-athletes from ten men's and 12 women's sports listed below.  The Mavericks sponsor six of those sports.

Checketts, a 2-time Academic All-American® and last year's Men's At-Large Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year is one of the Mavs' five repeat Academic All-District selections.  VanDeList was also an Academic All-American® for beach volleyball last year and has also been included on the past two indoor volleyball Academic All-America® teams. Phelan also earned Academic All-America® honors last year.

Diaz also earned Academic All-District® honors last year while Hunt was honored with the same for indoor volleyball in the fall of 2022.
