GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The Colorado Mesa men's golf team completed the first round of the Hot Dirt Shootout at The Golf Club at Estrella on Friday (Apr. 5) afternoon. The tournament is being co-hosted by Colorado School of Mines and Colorado Christian.
After the first round, the Mavericks shot a 23-over, 311 and are in 14
th place on the team leaderboard. They are just five strokes from the top-10 as Mines and Northwest Nazarene are tied for 10
th with an 18-over, 306.
Dallas Baptist leads the team standings with a 2-under, 286 in their first round.
Pablo Diaz continues to lead the Mavericks after playing out of the two-hole in the lineup today. The senior shot a 4-over, 76 in his first round after carding two birdies and six bogeys in the round. He, and two of his teammates, all birdied the par-5, No. 8, and he added a birdie on the par-3, No. 7.
Freshman
Dylan Everett shot 5-over, 77 after the first round as he had 13 pars and five bogeys in the round. Four of the five bogeys occurred on the back nine of the course.
Yael Chahin,
Cole Beyer, and
Timmy Cavarno all shot 7-over, 79 in the round.
DBU's Sam Jenkins and Stanislaus State's Chris Chomyn tied for the lead in the medalist hunt with matching 5-under, 67s.
Tee times are set for 8:00am on Saturday morning.
