BOULDER CITY, Nev. –
Cole Beyer and
Dylan Everett led the Colorado Mesa men's golf team to a solid start at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships that began today (Apr. 21) at Boulder Creek Golf Club.
Cole Beyer had a solid start to the tournament and closed day one on a hot streak. Beyer is tied for fifth place on the individual leaderboard after firing a 5-under, 67 on Sunday afternoon. The junior played the front side to a 1-under including an eagle on the par-5, No. 7 hole.
Beyer played his second nine to 4-under that included five birdies and one bogey. He shot par on his final hole of the day and narrowly missed a 6-footer which would have given him birdie.
Freshman
Dylan Everett matched his teammate with a 5-under, 67 and a share of fifth place on the leaderboard. Everett played steady golf from the opening tee as he recorded just a single bogey on his card and didn't come until hole No. 15. He played the front nine to 4-under and opened his second nine with a birdie on No. 10 and No. 12.
Timmy Cavarno (3-under, 69) and
Yael Chahin (1-under, 71) round out the scorers for Colorado Mesa.
The Mavericks are currently in second place after shooting 14-under, 274 in the first round of the tournament. They lead third-place Fort Lewis by four strokes and fourth-place Colorado School of Mines by nine strokes. All five Maverick golfers finished even or better including all four scorers going under par.
Colorado Christian currently leads the tournament with a 19-under, 269 after day one.
The Mavericks are set to be one of the first teams off the tee on Tuesday with their first tee time at 9:30am Pacific.
