Bellingham, Wash. - The Colorado Mesa University Men's Golf Team would improve on their standings after day one of the WWU Men's Invitational Golf Tournament at Bellingham Country Club as they tied for third place out of 13 schools to conclude their week in Washington.
The Mavs have now placed in the top three of all three of their tournaments this fall.
As a team they would total 861 strokes and finish three under par to tie with Chico State University. CMU finished four under today.
RMAC foe, Colorado Christian University would be the winner of this event as they shot 37 under as a team. They would finish with only 827 strokes total. Simon Fraser University would take second as they finished 11 under with 853 strokes.
Leading the Mavs in this tournament was Cole Beyer, who on both days would card sub-par golf with rounds of 66, 71 and 70. He would tie for fourth place in this tournament and finish today with five birdies.
Beyer has placed in the top five of every tournament this season.
Timmy Cavarno would fare a 20th place finish after shooting a third round 66 to tie for the best round of the day. He would card rounds of 71 and 79 on day one before bouncing back today to shoot his 66. Cavarno would have five birdies today with one eagle.
Leo Lavalle would end in 27th place as he ended today with a score of 75. He shot opening rounds of 69 and 73 yesterday.
The pair of Baptiste Laborde and Luke Wagstaff would both finish top 50 as Laborde ended tied for 43rd and Wagstaff ended tied for 48th. Laborde carded rounds of 74, 76 and 75. Wagstaff would have rounds of 76, 77 and 73.
The Men's Golf Team will return home now for a few days before heading down to Amarillo, Texas on Oct. 7 and 8 for the Ryan Palmer Foundation Invite, hosted by West Texas A&M University. Golf will take place at Amarillo Country Club.
